I've been looking at the ones on Gbase for some time now, great prices. The perfect Spectorcore for me would be a 5 string fretted in ANY color other than that orange (amberburst?) that all the new ones come in. I've found a number of nice ones in black or teal or dark red but not 5 strings. Fortunately I'm a very patient guy, if it takes a year to find the right one that's fine with me, I've got 3 very nice Spectors to keep me busy in the meantime. |

I bought the GK and love it but it cost a lot more than the Acoustic and the Markbass micro has a ton of tone in a tiny little package but it's just insanely priced. I'm an Ampeg guy at heart so the SVT-VR is my big rig but I didn't have as much luck on the smaller Ampeg combo stuff with my Woodstock NS-2J. The three combos above all played quite well with my Spectors. |

I still got my eye out for a 5ver for you.

Now I've been seriously considering the Micromark CMD121 and would have pulled the trigger on it if not for the a) cost and b) I'm concerned it might be too loud for my wife to cope with. I've read so many great reviews, but all of them talk about how loud it is. Can it be at low volumes and still maintain the tone? I played on one at GC last week and it seemed ok, but its always hard to tell in a large space versus my basement.

| | | | I hope a question wouldn't be amiss here. I'd really like a Spector; I like the sound people like Dan Briggs and John Myung get from them. It seems really well suited to both heavy metal and softer music, and I love the look of the NS body. Only problem is that I'm a poor college student. I already have a good-quality bass, and I'm not looking to replace it for a while. But I'm going to start saving up once I get a decent amp for practicing with a drummer, and I've got my eye on Spectors, among others. What's the most cost-effective option for getting the basic "Spector sound"? Do the Legend Series work for that, or should I look for used in another series?

I should bring one of my basses down to GC. I'm always looking for a good practice amp. I'm using a roland keyboard amp now and it doesn't sound good... lol
who has the contact info for that guy that makes the brass nuts? I need one to try some heavier strings... maybe two. Thanks!

I did find the GK MB210 to be more ballanced at different volume levels than the Markbass or the Acoustic, that and the 2x10 configuration vs the 1x12 of the others is what finally sold me on the GK. If you're going with the Micromark check out the used ones at GC and possibly save a bunch of money. Even used they are over priced for what they are (you could buy 4 new B20 combos for the price of one used Micromark) but they are darn nice. |

I was just talking with madbassplayer yesterday about them. for a player on the budget they are the go to spector in my opinion. The Legend is the NS body but not fully curved. If I remember correctly they are VERY similar to the USA bolt on bodies.
I played a Legend X stock and was very impressed... I still battle with getting one.
You could always upgrade pickups later and get closer to Dan's tone. |

My Spector NS2J is a 4 string as is my Euro LX so I can't offer a direct Spector to Spector comparison but I can tell you it feels fantastic. |

Crew would be proud if I bought it........can you hear that? It's cowboys from hell playing in the back ground. ........imagine it

I'm still in Santiago Chile. My original plan was to go to Southern Patagonia and do some mountain trekking down there, but our Easter Island trip was financially devastating and I've changed my plans to come back home to Vancouver on the 26th. Major bummer, but it was a great trip regardless.
That said, I have also spent my deposit for a new custom NS-2 I was planning...so that has been pushed to a later time period.
*Thanks Sam for giving my GAS by the way with some random NS-2 photos while I'm trying not to GAS. A Pimp is always a Pimp!.... Argh! *
Bummer turning into good news; my band was picked by one of the recording schools in Vancouver to have one of their students record us as part of their final project! So on Jan 15th or 16th we're heading into the studio to record a new song which I am super excited about.
In addition to having my Forte set to BEAD, I am now thinking that I will also have my Brooklyn set up that way so I could have a slight tone option. New US9V and old US9V. It's just that I am loving my Brooklyn so much, I'd love to have it recorded on a song professionally!
If I don't get a chance to post again, I shall wish you all a happy anything you celebrate and a great new year. Many new great Spector stories and experiences for everyone!!
***I've been trying to upload a video...something cool I did from Easter Island but alas, it crashes my connection every time I try to upload. | That's awesome news about your band being recorded in Jan. !
Sorry about your trip being cut short. Have a safe journey back home!
