Currently, I'm using Circle K's on all my Spectors. They are a mix of nickel and steel which in their words are "not quite as bright as steels and not as scooped as nickels. "
I was using Fat Beams for a little while but the CK's sound really great on my Euros to my ears. They have a coupon code for 20% off right now so might be worth a look. | I've considered circle Ks before- being a nickel user normally, that might not be a bad way to go since its a mix... Ill have to look into it. Quote: |
Question for my fellow euro owners- what steels do you prefer? I've got slinkys on her right now and it sounded amazing when they still had their zing, but they effectively died fairly quickly. So any recommendations for steels with good life? I'm usually a nickel guy but the euro really sings with steels on her. I'm using heavy gauge (110 E) tuned to D standard fwiw.

I love Dunlop Steels and Daddario prosteels. I'm using dunlops exclusively now
SOOOOO EPIC!!! [/quote]
That's 2 mentions of dunlops... I think I'll give those a try first since a local shop carries them. If those don't work out I think I'll look more into trying the circle Ks that Bunk mentioned. They get race reviews, so it'll be cool to test 'em out for myself.

This is the only bass I've ever had in non standard tuning- I like my strings on the tighter side though, hence my heavy preference. But I'm open to experiment a bit. Now that I know what bass I'm going to be using for a while, experimenting with strings is a much cheaper way to get closer to my 'dream tone' !

I love the feel, the sound, and I have never broken one!
They are the only strings I have ever had on my '95 NS4CRFM.

They are the only strings I have ever had on my '95 NS4CRFM. | Forgot to mention - the LaBella HRS M70 set is designed for D-tuning. They are 054-075-090-111. I tune down a lot, and there is no noticeable change in tension. Love em!

Oh, and I keep it in D standard, but use it more frequently in Drop C with the band (heavy, scooped guitar tone from both guitarists) so sets with strong mids are a big plus!

They are bright and last a long time. Don't let the boutique name fool you, they are inexpensive ($20-25 for a 4 string set) and made in Pennsylvania.
Sadowsky Steels are a close second.
I use Fodera strings on all of my basses these days in any case.

Personally, I won't change from my DR K3s.

The Darker Red one has Padauk Wings, is a prototype version and there may only be 8 of them in the world. The red one also has EMG P5's on it. It works better on that bass since the body wood was different. All three have the Haz Lab 18 volt system and the Tone Pump was removed. Hipshot Ultra Lite Tuners on each one. Dunlop strap locks. White bass was painted and I bought it used - they painted over the Cherry/Yellow finish. Did a decent job, but someday I want to sand off both finishes and redo it in gloss white. Maybe sand the neck about a 1/16th.
I named them too: Big Red, Mr. Orange, Snowflake. |

Awesome Pictures, where is the Blue Kramer, do you knot have that anymore?

| | One of Sam's Spector Johns. | | Join Date: May 2009 Location: North Las Vegas, NV | | | Recording stuff Hey guys. Okay, I am doing a little cleaning up and I have some stuff. One of the things I have is some old recording stuff that I have had for a couple of years. It has to be used with a PC, every time I have tried to install it on a Mac it has failed.
It is a Digidesign Mbox Mini 2 with Protools 8 software, and I have two small Eden Studio speakers that I bought seprately. I am using my Mac stuff for the little amount of recording I use, so just want to get rid of it. It is a education version, which means since I am am a teacher when I bought it I think I got like a $25 OR $50 discount, other wise it's all the same Protools 8 you would find anywhere.
It's not the greatest setup in the world, the speakers sound decent, but again, they are not going to be in Dr. Dre's studio anytime soon, but so far any recording I have ever posted in the forum has been recorded with this set up.
So here's what I am thinking, I would like this to go to someone in the club, I am not looking for anything for them. I am a teacher, have taught bass lessons to students, so I would like to just see them go to someone who can and will use them can just have them. Maybe just pay the shipping and we will call it good because you are in the club. I would like to see someone young that doesn't maybe have the bread for some recording stuff, but really anyone in the club is cool with me.
I hope I am not breaking some kind of rule by listing them here, but I figure they are not for sale, they are for donation to someone in the club, so hopefully that's cool.
Just PM me, best story or I think whoever will use it or, first or what ever and we will get them to you.
Chris.

Yeah Jeff's "Precious" went back home to Brett. He really wanted it back for some sentimental reasons and I felt obliged. I did get "Big Earl" back though and she is more pissed off than ever so I'm good.

Makes me want to avoid putting an 18V in my ReBop, for sure.

Normally I am pretty easy to please, but those holes would drive me nuts.

Killer basses though! | You can always leave in one of the old knobs - just disconnect it. I used to do that, but I had this urge to twiddle it all the time, so I got rid of it! LOL!
The difference between the Haz Lab and the Tone Pump sold me though....holes are cool! |

It used to be a brighter red when I first bought it. It's about 8 years old. It has gotten darker over the years and has a tone hump around 300hz. Very thick sounding bass and I LOVE IT. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
