I repeat it 4 times each clip, once with both pickups full on, then with only the neck pickup, then with only the bridge pickup, then with both pickups full on with a pick (keep in mind I don't use a pick very often!). They all have very similar or identical strings, and I tried to keep the output of the basses at the same level, so they are very clean sounding for the purpose of tone comparison, but by no means are they this tame when I normally play them! http://soundcloud.com/christovsk/ns-...crophobia-test http://soundcloud.com/christovsk/ns2...crophobia-test http://soundcloud.com/christovsk/ns2...18v-acrophobia
Also, these are the basses used just for reference: |

Theses are cool ones though. Like JPS' awesome "Blue Dream", I've always wanted a J/J Spector. I think it will be a while though - I need a USA NS-2 first.... | Quote:

It's a dramatic representation of the stellar woodworking and finishing skills at Spector and reminds us that under all that glorious wood is an equally glorious electronics package that helps deliver the signature Spector tone.
Great Pics! Keep em coming.
PS - if you've got any nice pics of any of the series#1 USA special edition NS-2J walnut body bolt on basses post those also, my camera skills and equipment just don't do mine justice. | Thank you. I really appreciate the compliment.
I went back to school for photography/cinematography and attended one of the best, but most expensive schools in the country for it... LOL. I only did the federal student loans... which is a good thing. Because I know kids that graduated with me with over $150,000 in student loans... we're talking a HOUSE payment every month.
Still... I get a nice fat bill for my edu-ma-cation each month. So glad to see all that schoolin' is appreciated.
I DID shoot the very first SE model. Let me grab those photos. It was done with my Nikon D2X, the camera I used before switching over to Canon. I now shoot with a 1D MKIV and 5D MKII.
So the image quality of the Nikon photos isn't as good (300dpi RAW @ 12.5MP vs. 350DPI RAW @ 21.5MP). That extra resolution and sensor size really brings the "WOW" into the shots with the Canon bodies.
I still shoot everything with my older Cinema Nikkor lenses (I have a Nikon F-Mount adapter set into my Canon bodies to accept Nikkor lenses, which have superior image quality in my humble opinion).
I'll dig those SE I images up for you and post them a little later.

That's a really beautiful SSD NS-5. And the burst finish is sweet. If that's a refinish... beautiful job.
Nice to see those old SSD models still out there working. I mean these things (ALL SPECTORS) are built like tanks. So it's always a treat to see an older model like this seeing action and making a bassist happy.
Thanks for sharing this!

It tempts me to refinish my Rebop in a solid gloss colour, rather than going for a matte trans finish.

Has anyone had that button moved to the side/top of the neck? Bass Northwest said they could do that no problem, but I'm a little apprehensive about having them drill into it. I liken it to sending your newborn child in for a painful surgery that may not cure what ills Would anybody recommend that procedure? | You know that's a lot of wood.
The X models are usually much heavier than the NS.
I'd look into this product, I saw a demo on Ra Diaz's Euro6LX at the BPL! show and actually it's a pretty cool solution for bassists with heavy or large body basses who want more control of how their bass sits with a strap. http://www.gruvgear.com/duostrap-signature

Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult.
I just want to make sure I answer your question if I can. Thanks!

I'll be retiring this month after about 35 wonderful years in the R&D technical design and prototype fabrication fields. The wife and I will most likely relocate to the Santa Barbara or Ventura area this summer and I had planned on taking courses at some of the schools in the region in Technical or Scientific Photography. Pics of people and places are ok but my interest has always been in capturing the intricacies of man made devices as well as macro perspectives in a scientific setting. That might be why your open control cavity pic caught my eye so quickly - it's a wonderful blend of hand craftsmanship beauty and machine built technology.
Anyway, as I get closer to realizing my retirement dream job I'll PM you to see if you're interested in providing some seasoned advice on schools, curriculum, equipment and any other tid bits of photographic related info you might want to share.
Oh - and thanks for offering to dig up some shots of a NS-2J series one. Mine is number 10 of 14 made from that walnut stock in 2010. |
