In reality, the switch, refund, etc... is between the person that did it and the Spector Dealer. Those details really don't matter.
The only thing that matters to me is where that NS-4 is and that none of you, the good people of this community, get tied up with it.
No one deserves to buy something in good faith and find out after the fact they've purchased stolen goods. It's a bad thing that happens to good people and just makes an ugly situation worse.
Sam and I volunteered to watch out for it because we both have a strong sense of right and wrong and Spector has been an important part of our healing from life-altering illness. So we don't mind spending our own personal time to try and right a wrong that should never happen to any Spector or any Spector Dealer, or any potential Spector customer (should an innocent person buy it not knowing it is stolen).
Spector's Official position is that this is between the dealer and the person in question. This is why I like being a "consultant" for Spector. I'm an independent contractor. And what I do with my spare time is my choice.
Sam and I have been watching for it in case it showed up in any of the usual places because we both hate that someone would do something like this.
I wanted to warn you all, so none of you got put into a bad place by getting this bass if it shows up for sale.
That was the main reason for my post... I'd hate to see anyone in the club get taken for a ride.
Be careful when buying any expensive product second-hand.
My wife and I still have a bunch of friends in law enforcement... here in CA and on the East Coast. And with the economy the way it is, more and more people are doing shady things to get ahead. We hear about some pretty crazy scams from our friends. It's scary what people are doing.
Only buy equipment that you can see a receipt for. That way you know it's legit.

Always fun to see when people have such a great grasp of reality.
Speaking of which. When I have a little more time, I want to let everyone know about a stolen USA NS-4 situation and warn everyone to be on the lookout for it. | What color is it Patrick?

Where do you find the parts to do this? I would love to try it. Am I reading this correctly, just a matter of splicing a few wires? | I love the looks of your Spalted Maple! One of the best I've seen!

It would seem that someone purchased an NS-4 from a Spector Dealer here in the USA and then returned it for a refund.
But they didn't return it. They returned a Euro model in its place. The dealer recognized that their NS-4 hadn't been returned and they notified Spector immediately.
I've been sitting on this information for a while... quietly hoping this NS-4 would show up here.
It also helps that the buyer was identified so Spector knows who this person is. The police and of course the dealer that got taken for a ride are watching this person. PJ Rubal involved the Spector Pimp (before he told me about it but that's because he knows I get REALLY ANGRY about stuff like this and he didn't want me going after them... LOL). Sam and I have been quietly lurking around several online locations where Spectors are bought and sold hoping that the holidays would prompt the thief to try and sell it.
I think they may just be planning on keeping it for themselves. Sam thinks they may be getting it refinished. There's a lot of theories. I figured it was time to go ahead and let everyone know about it.
I also want to warn you all because if that bass surfaces, even if the person that took it has it refinished (which would be even more of an insult and a disgusting thought really) and tries to sell it; if it is ever identified the police will get involved and the poor person who purchased it would be out their money and the bass because the bass would be confiscated as evidence. The buyer could try to get their money back, but the thief would be in a world of trouble at that point... so good luck getting anything back.
This is why you have to be careful buying used but really valuable guitars; ask to see the receipt where the person purchased it to make sure it's legit.
I really want this person to get caught with it. I want to see them go to jail... and they will go to jail.
It's felony theft by conversion and would fall under federal jurisdiction because the transaction crossed State lines (my wife is a former FBI and GBI analyst and knows her criminal law... (GBI = The Georgia Bureau of Investigation - she's originally from Georgia and I lived there for 20 years).
So keep an eye out for a new but used NS-4. If any of you have seen a "great deal" on an NS-4 or if you've been approached about one on the down-low... please PM me. Anything and everything will be kept confidential.
If any of you would like more info, please PM me or send me an email to my Spector email address: webadmin@spectorbass.com
I have to say that stealing another person's property (even if it is a "company" and not an individual) is so vile and disgusting to me. And it's a slap in Stuart's face for all the hard work and love he and the guys at the NY Workshop put into these basses. They are meant to be owned and enjoyed by honest people, not thieves. Plus there's a Spector Dealer that's been cheated out of a USA NS-4.
Thanks everyone, back to the regular programming... | Man, that really stinks! But something seems strange about all of this...wouldn't the dealer have done a physical check of the NS-4 before refunding the money??? I realize that's not an excuse by no means...just odd. Stealing is stealing and just hideously wrong.

Most music chains sell keyboards, PAs, guitars, winds, drums, etc. and Spector specifically can be confusing to the casual musician/warehouse worker due to the # of product lines that look almost identical.
There is a Euro/ReBob (not sure the actual model) that is a black matte 5er that looks almost exactly like my Forte 5. Actually, the top is nicer!
Still sucks.

Don't like the "Silky" feeling huh? I love them! When I let somebody try out my basses their first reaction is "whoa! Love the silkiness of these strings"! I would think that when you sell something with a sku number or a serial number, it can be checked in that way? Also aren't returns flagged especially a high dollar one? So this bass is still out there floating around apparently? Last time there was an issue like this I think someone posted a description and maybe a serial number? Am I remembering it correctly? Said person could have already moved said bass to someone one of us knows?
Sam or Patrick can you post more info so we can all do a search on local stores? Maybe we can find the missing NS-4? I can check in my area and put friends on alert in VA? I'm willing to help, just need a tad more info?

And your Coda is really amazing, BTW. I'm excited to see the show pieces from NAMM in a few weeks (or whenever the pics make their way here). How cool is the pro line Coda! That's gonna get overwhelmingly pre-ordered I'd bet. Do you still miss the Forte, or are you happier with the Coda? I know it's a little apples and oranges, but I'm just curious what you think. | Thank you Steve . I do miss the some things about the Forte 5...but, the Coda is the bass that I've been looking for. The Coda actually has a larger array tonal palette. The NS body is unique and comfy but I've always dig the Fender body/headstock style. Right now I play sitting on a stole so its not uncomfortable at all. I'm really pleased Stu & PJ have decided to use the BEM FB on most models now because I really love the looks and tonal of the BEM. I'd like to see more pre-amp options like the OBP 3. I believe it'd be an awesome tonal addition to the Coda.
Yes! The Coda Pro line was a total surprise and it'll be a great addition to compete against the Jazz bass market from MIJ/MIM.
I'm glad you had a great trip to Dallas. I've been wanting to get down there to visit my old Air Force buddy for several years. Now that I'm officially retired, and my checks start coming in, I'll take a trip down there this Spring. I'd love to make a few stops on our way down as we travel thru Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.
