For fun we ran thru Livin' After Midnight and we added it to the setlist as it sounded great. I don't play with a pick much, but that tune with a Spector and a pick is killer.
I just might be looking for a 2nd Spector soon. | Thats weird because I have a Modulus 5 sweetspot and I've never been crazy about the slap sound. I think my NS2a smokes it. I'm sure we have different playing styles. The low B on the modulus is great though. May I ask, what preamp do you have in your modulus? Mine had a EMG BT but I yanked it out and put a aggie obp 3 in it. I failed miserably with the install and I'm gonna have to have a tech fix i t for me. So I haven't heard it yet.
I think that "in your face" Spector sound isn't ideal for ballads, or any song that is "sparse" and has lots of empty space. Might try backing down the bridge pickup and turning down the treble during those songs.

The standard EMG I believe, but I never really looked as it sounds so damned good. I will have to figure that out next time I change the batteries.
The slap tunes I am rehearsing lately are more in the Flea style... Pretty basic, but root-octave type stuff. More rock than funk in any case.
Also, the Forte 5 does have a killer B string IMO, but the Modulus may be a touch better lower than low D.
Again.... Nitpicking. I am comparing Stuart's "standard/basic" USA made 5er to a MTD that has a new sell (not list) price of well over $5k.
The Forte 5 is one of the best basses I have ever owned.... And I have owned more than a few!

| | Supporting Member | | Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Nanaimo, BC, Canada | | OK, so after a hellish day taking the ferry to vancouver, getting my bass, being told I'm too late for the return ferry, waiting 2 hours with a bored 2 year old for the next ferry, and finally getting home around 5pm...I plugged in my new-to-me NS20005!
I like the sound, but it's definitely not a TonePump.
I opened the cavity up & this is what it looks like. The Treble & Bass pots are also notched for the centre points! Any ideas as to what it is??
(pics of the bass itself will follow after I've rested)

I can't say I notice any difference in volume or much difference in tone ... perhaps a bit more mid/low grit coming through, but it's hard to say for sure because it's not like flipping a switch to hear A vs B immediately. I only have an Acoustic B200 combo to play it through at the moment. I'll get to experiment a bit more tomorrow midday when my apartment neighbors aren't trying to relax in peace & quiet
Can anybody who's made the addition before tell me what their experience in sound was?

(pics of the bass itself will follow after I've rested) | I'm pretty sure that is an older EMG BT citcut. It looks like what I pulled out of my 1995 modulus. Does it have 2 tiny dip switches on the other side?
