Wow ... the more inspiration, the better! That was real swell of her Stay strong. I'm guessing you have a private room?

I am in the same boat after today's rehearsal.

I brought my 1973 Jazz to rehersal this morning with my Forte 5er. My black/maple/black inlays "Geddy" Jazz is one of the best Fenders i have ever played (even early 60's).... But it just can't compare to an active Spector. Sounds so thin when A/B-ed and I ended up playing the Spector for all but the first song.

I really need (sorry, want!) an active Jazz 5er and I am likely going Coda. A Fodera NYC is the other option, but the tops on some of the recently built Codas are killer.

OK, I'll bite on posting the greens... That is, if teal counts. ...And thrown in there is a red who's better late than never. Maybe natty / zebra woods are the next line-ups?

Nuts

Guys, who can educate me on the difference of brass nut vs black graphite nut? At the moment I have graphite nut on my NS-2 and I like the sound and set-up is perfect to me. I also have an original Spector brass nut which Todd provided the shipment with (Thanks Todd!!! but I haven't put it on yet because I actually like the way it sounds with graphite one and another thing I worry about is that the techs who will replace the nut for me will also do complete set-up and I'm not sure if I'll like their set-up preference. Anybody compared the tone brass vs graphite?

There are always a lot of opinions on this topic.
But keep this in mind.

The tone of the graphite vs. brass is only valid when you are playing a open string.

IMHO if you are happy with the the setup and the way it sounds keep it with the graphite nut. No need to spend money having a tech replace it and you may not even notice a difference.

Sam, I also think so...And open strings on my NS-2 are quite bright even with the graphite nut and sound quite similar to fretted and I like it because there's no gap difference between fretted and open strings and strings tone are balanced. So I think it may be worth leaving it as is.

that's a great looking legend, and a solid bass all around. A recording engineer friend of mine commented how much he loved the legend five he recorded the other day.

how do you like it?

The brass nut will only affect the tone/sustain of the open note. Any note that is fretted will be unaffected. Graphite is fine for a nut.

Edit:

I see the Godfather said the same thing. What a pimp.

I hear ya on the Geddy Lee Jazz bass...my buddy let me borrow his Geddy Lee until my Coda 5XL arrived. I thought the same thing...too thin of a tone. My Coda beats it hands down!
