MARKETING!
Other companies (without the cache that EMG's name carries) want you to think that they developed a special pickup just for your 5- or 6-string, vs. the "regular" 4-string PUPs they have been selling for 40+ years.
EMG is like Porsche; you see the pickup housing (smooth, black) and the little logo in the lower right corner, and you know right away what you have. The package is their greatest selling (and marketing) tool.
When I see pickups with pole pieces, I have no idea what brand they are, cuz there are at least a dozen companies that make those.
I like EMGs approach: pragmatic, sleek, understated, but intimidating!

We have several new members in both places, and I'm wondering if there are some new TB-FB name combos to put together.
Thanx!

Thanx! | I did that. It is updateable by anybody. Some have message me to update it and I do, but unless someone tells me they are on TB I have no idea.

I could have the date off a little. But for sure, in the old price lists I've seen, the natural finished CR models were listed as oil finish.

I'm really old skool and I like the look of the classic black walnut finish that is available for USA models. Due to being poor, I can't spend 5k on a bass. Could I order a Euro in black walnut? It's not on their available finishes. How flexible are they (the Euro factory) in that regard?
I'm thinking Euro LX, black walnut, satin poly.
similar to this but a euro | I have no idea. I'll be honest, I'm also a big fan of the old solid black walnut models, but PJ was concerned that the wood was too plain to include it as a full-wing option. It's already used for the back-side of the buckeye burl and spalted maple tops.
You'd have to ask him directly. pj@spectorbass.com if he'd be willing to do any Euro models with that wood. I honestly don't know.
I love the photo you used BTW. That's one of those disgusting things you run across... an NS-1 that's been routed for a J and made into a "fake" NS-2.
And the one in this image has been claimed to be #11 for some time.
Forget that I had conversations with both the owner of that establishment (before he passed) and his sales manager... clear conversations stating EXACTLY what they had, and that there is no such serial number as #11 in the NS-2 from Brooklyn. The early NS-2 and the NS-1 models were assigned a serial based on their completion date and the number they were in the batch.
All these guys did was mark the asking price down from $10,000 to $5,000. LOL.
That bass isn't worth $1,000 in the condition it's in. This is a clear case of someone presenting something as something other than what it really is.
And it's sad. That NS-1 in original condition would have been worth so much more. They are very hard to come by.

So I can pretty much guess that having a Euro made out of this is not going to be an option. I mean, I could be wrong. But I doubt it.
