Since I'm not gigging much at the moment, and the gigs I do have are pretty small, I'm thinking about selling my rack mount rig in favor of a micro head. I used to have a GK MBFusion 500 that I really liked, but the Aguilar stuff really intrigues me!
I currently run a Demeter HBP-1 > Carvin DCM1540L > DNA 1x12. This is a fantastic sounding setup, but I have no need for a rig that powerful. I plan on keeping the cab and just matching it with a high quality micro head.
This will basically be used as a home practice setup and I will primarily be playing my soon-to-be-finished NS-5H2 JJ Fretless!! ...according to Todd and PJ, all the parts are sitting in assembly and should be finished just after NAMM!! | Alright! Finally we'll see your awesome fretless NS-5H2JJ! Seems like a year ago. I know you ordered right after me.

Also on that note, I've noticed several players (including Colin Edwin) have a bolt-on Spector fretless. Is there any advantage to going that way vs. neck-thru for a fretless? |

It seems like Brad has been waiting longer for it seems though but his might have been delayed due to BPL and NAMM maybe.
With the bass Colin has, there are 2 MM pickups which I think is only available as an option for the bolt-ons unless I am wrong with that. I don't believe MM pickups are available for the neck-thru models but I could be totally wrong with that. EDIT How many times do I need to say "I can be totally wrong with that?" That is what I get for typing a response while on a conference call

So that leads me to my next question - are MM's a better choice for a fretless than the typical DC's? |

I have experience with the tone hammer 500. I also have experience with markbass, genz, gk, etc so can tell you about those micro heads. Brad I can definitely give you a run down of what did what. We can even talk on the phone if you like.

I know Pino used a fretless Stingray but man, he could make that thing sing. Ok, I know it's Paul Young but just listen to the bass playing It kicks in around the :55 second mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BkGCkwJCWE

On another note, has anyone played a Warwick FNA Jazzman 5? I know they're kinda frowned upon (I guess) but looking for some 5er's on eBay I've come across a few of these and they're pretty nice looking. Assuming the neck specs are to my liking and I dog the tone, what's everyone else think of these things?
Maybe I'll throw a feeler out there in the club and see if anyone has a jazzman 5 for sale, I wasn't really looking for one but might bite for the right price. |

no personal experience. I have yearned for a streamer jazzman in the past. but never played one.

Almost bought one a while back in the classifieds here. Only thing that held me back was that I wasn't totally sure what it sounded like as they are not common.

There's a nice single humbucker that I think I'd really like, and I'm sure I could make my money back on it if it wasnt for me.
I hadn't really looked at warwicks since I bought my Spector, and before that they were way out of my price range, but these FNA 5s look pretty cool. Wonder how it would compare in tone to the rebop MM. |

He has it labeled as a euro lx but the wings look to be solid maple and the serial doesn't have 'NB' before it so I'm thinking late model NS4CRFM with inlays. If so, these have the thinner necks like Kramers. I have the same one in black stain. Awesome basses and this is a good price w/free shipping. No affiliation with the seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...:X:RTQ:US:1123

Maybe I'll throw a feeler out there in the club and see if anyone has a jazzman 5 for sale, I wasn't really looking for one but might bite for the right price. | I'm gonna jump forward here......I happen to have owned and played many wicks, still have them with my stables. I assume you speak of the fna jazzman that is also a corvette body style, they are more common, however the streamer(NS body design) is way less common. I happen to have owned both. Rather than get into a large discussion here......feel free to PM me.
I will note that a corvette fna jazzman is different to ally than your standard Spector Euro five or four. The neat thing is they have a single in the neck and a double coil at the bridge. I have not played a Spector like that. However, John DeLuca has a USA bolt that has a single and tw emg I believe. He could explain the tone variance from the Spector perspective of that config. If you wanna talk, the W, best to do it via PM....hit me up if you like. The rebop five and the fna jazzman five are totally and totally different beasts. I have and have had both. Hope this helps, and I referenced Spectors and even gave a member that can help with the "fna pickup config" in a Spector! :-)
