So it has given me a new outlook on playing the bass and I am glad that I took on the project. It led me to my Spectors in the search to find "my tone" instead of copying someon else. Developing that and improving my playing has lead to me being asked to be part of other projects, also a good thing. Just sucks that you complete 12 songs and are ready to hit the studio and then it ends. Being part of this Club and watching guys like Omer take his ideas and make something out of them on his own, John De practicing to improve as much as possible, even though he has a super hectic schedule, Steve taking care of Donny and even helping me and Jamie out a couple times, Ho flying out to see Donny's release party, and seeing the passion that Chris had even though he was sick and the treatments had taken his strength, has been a great insperation to me to keep thumping away at it. | AWESOME!!! 1.) NS body style or Coda?
2.) 4 or 5 string?
3.) Traditional P split coil?
I think that's about all the details?
Your participation will be much appreciated!

IMO the USA Spector bolt on basses deserve much more respect than they get. They inspired me to order the dual J fretless that is almost finished and in the fall I'm wanting to order a fretted NS-5H2 with a single MM.
You know you want to post a pic and show it off!!

| | | Hi everyone!
I've been reading this thread for a while now, since the club was on part 30 or something like that.
It just goes too fast to read everything, but lot's of interesting stuff. So I decided to join Talkbass, mainly because of this club! Also hoping to find some good material to improve my playing and knoweldge.
I have been using a Spector Rebop as my main bass for more than two years, and just love it. I just ordered today EMG 40DC and a BQC preamp, hoping to cut a little bit better through the mix and add some growl to the bass.
Can I get a number please ? here she is:
Thank you!

People were saying that my saddles should sit pretty close to the body to get the action I want. I'm finding the opposite.
Thoughts? And, yes, I know it needs to be cleaned, but I haven't had the time to unstring it.

Cosmetic flaws don't really matter, it's gonna see the stage with me anyway, it's bound to get a little dinged up. If anyone picked one if these up and changed your mind send me a PM!! |

And, yes, I know it needs to be cleaned, but I haven't had the time to unstring it. | It all depends on the bass awilkie. since yours is a rebop, you could probably put a little shim in the neck pocket (towards the headstock end) to fiddle with the overall neck angle. right now its probably tilted back a little which would cause you to have to have your saddles higher.

ReBop's are designed with neck being higher off the body of the bass then a EuroLX model or even a Asian or USA model.
Look in the photo of how high the neck is above the body at the neck pocket and look how high the Pickup is off of the body.

First roughly what kind of weight range would something like the Wimbish model run? I used to have a couple Warwick Dolphin 5's and they were tanks.... don't really want to go down that road again.
Second, most the tones I'm familier with from Spectors are pretty in your face. I love me some Eddie Jackson Mindcrime era tone and been a fan of Wimbish for a long time(Jungle Funk kills). However how do they do on more mellow, Motown type stuff? Any good examples of that type of stuff on something like the Wimbish model (NS-2?)?
Sorry for my ignorance, I'm generally a passive J bass guys so please enlighten me. | Quote:

Ill try to think up some examples for you to check out, although I'm sure by the time I do most of them will already be posted, haha. | The Euro Wimbish is most likely in the 8.5-9lb range.
As stated above by cjmodulus; Spectors are known for their bite and growl, but it is possible to coax mellower sounds out of them.
I agree,
I can get nice Motown tones out of them, and you could always swap the preamp or pickups if its too aggressive for you. You will love the smaller body and neck on the Wimbish model if you are coming from a Std type J Bass.
