with a good fret job that bass will play amazing. I remember how good my legend five used to be. super thick meaty tone.

I think once I get a bit of money put away I will head to Chicago and check some stuff out. I believe Bass Club stocks some Spectors so I could at least get a feel for them. I played a US five string 15 years ago and a Kramer era one about 20 years ago but honestly I can't remember much about either other than the US one was stunningly beautiful!
Thanks for the info, much appreciated! | I'm one of the few on here that puts Flatwound strings on my Spector basses. I love the Mo-Town sound and I have no problem getting that sound from all the Spectors (11) that I've owned. I highly recommend the Aguilar OBP 2 or 3 for that good ole Mo-Town sound. For pickups I like the EMG PJ, their my favorites so far. Good luck on your quest!

The B string, even after bending it over at a sharp angle on the bridge, was "thunky". The other problem I had was that the strings were too slippery and I couldn't play some of my string skipping lines properly.

Sounds great, but I'll need to do a fret-job to remove some sprouting. I really do like the size and weight; the curved back will take a little bit of getting used to...
That's about it - thanks! | Cool!!!...but not all of us make $2000k a show like you!...

I've use 99% of the time GHS Precision flats, and D'Addarios chrome flats and RotoSounds Jazz Nickel flats. I've never had any "Thunky" B string. Even using GHS Black tape flats. One of the things that worked on my old ReBop 5 DLX to bring out more growl was replacing the string nut with a brass nut. Big difference IMO. Quote:
