The bands finally getting some more shows together so I'm really stoked to get these, more so then I ever have been for a pack of strings haha.
Was really hoping they were gonna get here today, but I have no doubts they'll be worth the wait. |

Hopefully Lee (Husky) will chime in here, as he has owned both models at the same time. I believe he sold his NS-4, and I believe he feels the NS-2's slightly more aggressive tone better suits his style.
As compared to my Euro, the NS-4 has deeper lows, a smoother & fuller midrange, and a touch more sparkle to the high end. The Euro has a bit more of what most here would call "the classic Spector tone", with the honk of the P-pickup & the nasal tone of the J-pickup.
I will buy an NS-2 someday, but I'll never part with my NS-4. It has "the sound" to my ears, and I am 110% satisfied with it. | Wow - I have looked at pics of your beautiful blue bass for so long, and I never realized it was an NS-4!
I have an NS-4CR and a Euro5 (Alex Webster); this will be my first U.S. Spector, and I think the NS-4 will be the perfect complement to my collection. I love the EMG DCs!

I had been saving for an NS-2 when I noticed that this one had been sitting at Bass Central for quite some time. I figured I could haggle a good price because of that, and I was right.
I scored it for many hundreds less than they were asking for their NS-2s, and it turned out to be one of the best & most satisfying musical instrument purchases I've ever made.

a while back you posted a comparison of a Kramer and two more modern 9v equipped basses, and I got the same feel. seventhframes video reinforced that perception for me.

I really liked the NS 4 tone but just couldn't come to terms with its massive, bowel moving low end. I just prefer the tight and focused grind of the NS 2.
The NS 4 has a cleaner grind and is way more wide sounding. Only makes sense when you think of all the string energy those wide soapbars are taking in. I'll have another one soon enough I'm sure.

Heavy, clumsy and way too thick in the neck.
It would be on the chopping block right now if not for the thunderous tone it produces..... Still on the fence about selling it - great sound & sexy looks, but what good is that if it feels like an old Buick?
I've been playing pretty much just my Spectors for the past 18 months, and the only other basses that still feel good to me are my Rickenbackers, and I think the reason for that is because I've been playing Rics for over 30 years now, and they are engrained in my DNA.

Did you play them both thru your M9?
I find that my M6 has a very tight, sharp clean tone, even with the gain set higher (it tends to loosen the tone, but can't get dirt from high gain on the Mesa).
I find that amp to be a great combination with my Webster; I'm hoping to get that same effect with the NS-4.

The NS body style is so streamlined that it has spoiled me for any other brand (except that W thing, which I would never spend my hard-earned $$$ on).

I'm this far (hold index finger and thumb approx. one inch apart) from pulling the trigger on my dream NS-4 (Bahama Blue / BEM), and I'm curious as to how it stacks up to the "Spector U.S. 9V pre-amp circuit" overall.
The Spector site calls the NS-4 the NS-2's more powerful brother. This intrigues me! | Lee has had both at the same time. John Deluca currently owns Lee's which was Chris Loe's Quote:

It sounds more aggressive to me than the 18v. Of course I never really pushed the preamp on the 5XL during the comparison.
Now with that said, I've ordered my ultraviolet 5XL w/BEM with a 9v and 40P5 and 40J pickups. So the idea is to have the best of both worlds. Hard choice for sure. I know a few other guys here actually have or have had NS-4's so they can help describe it too. | I like the 18 volt pre better Quote:

I'll have another one soon enough I'm sure. | I have played both. I currently own a Euro with DC's and the Spector 18 volt circuit. I like it better than the 9volt. It is deeper and more musical to my ear. The nine volt gets gritty and grindy. If you like clarity and headroom got for the 18 v and a ns-4. I believe Lee himself once said.......the ns-2 (with 9volt) is like getting hit with a baseball bat (very focused and punchy) where as the ns-4 (18 volt) is like getting hit with a huge 4x4? Or big side of board.....lol. I like the clarity and headroom of the 18volt. That bass gets used in my three piece cover band and really helps fill the void with its huge sound when the singer/guitarist drops out for a solo. Hope this helps......I say buy a NS-4!!!!!!!!
