Here's the Euro LX totally stock trimpot Tone Pump. Killer Alien infested quilt top.
Here's the NS4CRFM with Aguliar OBP-2 from a Forte installed. This bass kills! For all of you club friends, if you were to keep one of these 4-strings, which would you keep? | Its between these two for me, The CRFM would probably be my first choice electronics wise and the solid maple wings, but the Aliens would be my favorite to look at

I really like the BQC in my Matte Euro. P/JX are a little too hot for me. If the new bass has the TP it is nice to have something different instead of two the same. Just keep the one you'll miss the most. If you ask me I'll always vote a OBP or BQC over a TP, but that's just me.

Originally Posted by Ian Perge I can kinda-sorta give my opinion to this: I've got EMG 40P5 & 40DCs in my Euro Bolt-On DLX FM 5-string with an Aggie OBP-3SK: I'm not very much of a "Precision Tone" type-o'-guy, but the one I did like was the '95-'08 American Deluxe Precisions with their P/Dual Coil setup that fills in the mids with some J-Bass fullness (I find Ps and especially their mids to be "hollow", for lack of a better term) so this was my attempt to mimic that tone. And it's really, truly close! The bolt-on/Flame Maple & Alder-ness certainly helps but the P alone is a strong P-sound with a nice and clear (if "hollow" ) down the B-string and is my personal definition of a P-Bass with the DC dialed in about 70%... again, fills in the mids without destroying the P-sound.
Again, take with my opinion on Precisions as well it's equipped with the "P5 in their Soapbar Shell" as opposed to an Extended 5-string P. But if you happen to have a spare Spector lying around as I did ( ) it's a nice tone to have in your toolbox for minimum outlay in pickup costs. | I was looking at installing 2 soap bar EMG 40P5's on a Fiver so I'd have a P bass, but the way you did it with a 40P5 at the neck, a DC at the bridge sounds very interesting...where did you purchase the pickups if I may ask? I too am looking at swapping out a TonePump Jr. for an Aguilar OBP 3 preamp.

I too am looking at swapping out a TonePump Jr. for an Aguilar OBP 3 preamp. | I had my Tech at the time (who was working out of Akron, OH's GC when their started their In-House Tech program a few years ago) simply order me the 40P5, as he was doing all my Spector pickup & preamp installs at the time (dumping the HZ/TonePump combos for Nordstrand Big Singles & Aguilar OBP-3SKs in my fretted 4 & 5 and fretless 5) as he had to order all new Knobs for the Stacked Treble/Bass on the Aggie (I already had the 40DC that came with my Zebrawood 5 which the previous owner had installed). You could also go with a 40TW that would give you the coil-split and a straight P/J setup... I know some people have complained about a volume drop when droping the coil, but I've also see a Very Simple Mod in the Electronics Forum to regain the gain. As my point wasn't a P/J anyway, I went for the straight Dual Coil and it's made this Bass into A Player.
I've also had wonderful service from Best Bass Gear.com in the custom-ordering of my Nordy Big Singles (they're EMG-shelled, custom pole-pieces spacing for Spectors, and custom-wound as well) so I'd give them a call as well.

| | | | Ok, right now my Euro Lx has the trim pot tonepump in it, should I leave it be, or put my MM114 9v clone in, or Emg BTC and Exb expander in? If I put the MM114 in do i need to change the stock pickups?

Thanks for the tips. We have one of our Spector brothers that works there I believe, smadder. Ill give him a call. That's sweet they make the pickup coils there at best bass gear.

So...after reading, it looks like EMG doesn't recommend running a BT or BQ pre-amp with the TWs. Anyone with experience or recommendations on these? They seem to be the same price as the 40P5 & 40J I was looking at...

Last week I put on DR DDT strings and have been using this bass for dropped tuned songs. Add the Microtubes B3K and it is a beast.
