I have a blue Woodstock NS-4 with the same 18-volt USA circuit, and it delivers all of the magic that my Euros do, and then some....

SHEEESSH | they use a technique that involves a coat of black dye that they apply and then sand off. the dark dye sits in the "short grain" in the figure of the wood and creates a 3D effect that really pops out when the color and clear coat are applied. PRS also uses this technique on their maple tops as does Modulus I think.
