It sounds like you really like the P. I was in a similar situation at one point. I had a US Fender Jazz and wanted a spector. I got rid of the fender which I really loved everything about to get a rebop. I liked the rebop but after the honeymoon period was over I missed my fender. I ended up ditching the spector and getting a new jazz soon after that I liked better than my old jazz so everything worked out I guess. That's my story. If you like the fender keep it.

What would YOU do?

Keep in mind that I'm hoping for either one to become a "bass for life"
Weight watchers I would join, lose the weight, feel better about yourself and you will find the bass a better fit. I know, I lost the weight, my fingers are thinner and I enjoy my bass even more.

I say dare to be different. Play your spector and like the tone and change the world to like your tone. and take it from an old man it's very hard to find that one bass for life. I've been playing for 42 years and I run away from sounding like someone else. I'd rather folks say yup, that's that old fart playing rather than who ever is playing that P-Bass sure sounds good.

Lose the weight and don't get either

Seriously, EVERYONE has a fender, and Spectors have really caught on over the years

Get your own tone, get a Warwick or a dingwall

I'm here lurking, reading the comments and taking it all in.

It's weird - the fender is winning the poll by a landslide, but a huge amount of the comments have been in favour of the spector.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this really. Fender obviously has a large following, but the spector fans are pretty hardcore. Plus, I thought a lot might go in favour of getting a new bass, I know what GAS monsters you lot are

I'm thinking that the way to go for me will be to lose the gut, keep my Fender, save my butt off and buy a spector anyway when I can afford it.

I think that's a very smart plan...

Your GAS list on your profile is 3 precision basses.. it certainly does seem like there's a 'theme going on'

I think (by the sounds of it) if you get rid of the p bass, you're going to miss it soon enough.

excellent decision eu

while there is always a balance of looks vs feel... your tone is key. i'm a member of the "belly club" and most of us have "image" quirks. don't let them determine your ability to play your rear end off!!!

as a side note there are a ton of makers and models out there. some can even cop a fairly decent p-tone. my tip is play every bass you can get your hands on.

It depends on what sound you want. Personally, I would go for the Spector. I think their tones blows Fender's out of the water.

I'm like you in I have to sell gear to buy anything new nowdays. (damn economy) Anyway the 1 bass for life is a nice thought, but I have my doubts anyone on TB has followed through on this. I've been really happy with the NS2A I picked up a while back. I love the feel and tone. Meanwhile my trusty old stallion (81 G&L L-1000) still sits by, waiting it's turn. I always go back to her after a while. So I guess what I would do is keep your Fender and save up for the Spector. I now plan to keep both of mine for a long time. Two different flavors of awesome!

I (personally) think a Euro Spector is a better bass in every way, shape, and form than the Fender. I'm not a Spector fanboi or a Fender hater, I just think the Euro Spectors are great, great basses.

Since you like the P, I vote keep it.

Or check out the P Bass Jr from some years ago in the mid 2000s...

I've jumped between Fenders & Spectors for the last year. Always come back to my Spector as my Go-to!

I'm currently trying to make my P sound like a Spector.
My main bass is a 2006 Spector Rebop 5DLX. LOVE it.
