What do you guys think of this bass?
How does it compare to some of the more high-end Spector products (such as the NS-2 and the like)?
They're probably one of the best in their price range. Do they compare to the NS-2? No. Do they compare to the Legends? No.
BTW...*** is a Spector LV? It's not even listed in their past models...
I have one as my main gigging bass (to poor to afford anything nicer right now) and it's fairly solid.
The soapbars are a bit muddy, so some amp adjustments will be needed. Upper fret acess isn't the best, because the bolt on part of the neck is pretty thick. Apart from that really nice. Awesome thin neck, great fretwork, and fairly light weight.
I prefer it every day over Squire's or SX's
I picked up one recently and like it for what it is. I had a Ian Hill model a while ago, and overall I like the Performer more. Not better tone or neck, but overall it just works better for me.
I've played the performer and feel that it is a great entry level model. As stated above, it's not a Euro or a US build NS-2/4, but it holds its own in its price range very well. I have two Spectors, a Euro Bolt on (ReBop) and a Legend. The Euro is stock except for the 18v upgrade to the Tone pump preamp. The Legend has been upgraded (prior to me) with EMGXs and the EMG BQC pre amp. The legend only cost me $190 via eBay and that included shipping. Sure it had a few love bruises here and there, but I love this bass. Thin neck. Narrow nut, great tone range. If your a beginner go for the Performer, if you've been around for a bit, really look into the Legend series as a used pick up. I think that would be the best bang for your buck. Good luck on your search. Just know that Spectors are like a drug addiction, you keep wanting more and more.
Owned two Performer by Spectors, specifically the 5er.
First one had a low cut B string nut.
Second was much better, played great and had a nice tone, but the electronics were a bit buzzy.
Not bad, but not great.
