Squier Active Jazz Deluxe slap switch
 

Hello folks - I know these basses have been covered a fair bit but for the current owners can anyone tell me in which position is the slap switch off (i.e EQ flat)? Imagine the bass is strapped on - switched towards the bridge or switched towards the neck?

What do your ears tell you?

Towards the neck is off on mine. And you should be able to tell from the punchy high gain tone...

Usually (Clover's Delano electronic comin' to mind) towards the neck to switch it off
 

Towards to bridge (or out of the body, as some tend to say...)
is engaged and midscooped.

But... yes: what are your ears tellin' you?

My ears tell me that towards to bridge sounds scooped, and maybe a little thin sounding, however towards the neck is way too muddy/boomy.
I guess I asked to get an idea before I had a chance to play in a live setting. I did this last night and got a great tone for rock/metal with the switch towards the bridge and just bumping in some low mids around 340hz. Killer. Bright, just right amount of low end thump and enough mids to be heard without being overbearing.

I was actually wondering the same thing. To me the switch sounds almost like an active/passive selector. But yeah, "slap" contour settings usually imply a mid scoop (which I find weird as I prefer to maintain some mids when I slap).

My ears tell me neither position is inherently better for slap.

Does my Fender Jazz have a slap switch? I would like to try it.
