Squier Classic Vibe 60's j bass?
So these things are awesome.
I have only heard good things so far. Has anyone had any negative experiences? Also is it just me or are they super hard to come by used?? I've got to go used because of my current financial situation and despite scouring the Internet and local stores here in Eugene (haven't been to Portland yet) I can't find any. It don't strike me as something that would be so rare?
Great bass. This is my No. 1.
Yes, they are very rare used. People who have them tend to hang on to them, because they are so good.
I rarely hear anything bad about it. If I do it's either because they probably got a lemon or it's someone with their bug up their a$$ about "dem four-reen gee-tars".
Check out Guitar Center's used database. I just took a look and I'm seeing about five or so CV Jazzes with an average price around $250-$300.
If you've never used this site before, just type in "Squier", click on "Bass" and leave everything else blank or unchecked. You'll see their nationwide inventory that way.
They'll charge about $25 for shipping/handling/insurance. And if you don't like it, you can physically return it to any GC store (30 day return policy, I believe?). You'll get the cost of the bass refunded, but not the shipping. I just did this very recently. I may have had to eat the shipping cost, but at least I didn't have to pay a second time to return it to it's store of origin.
... there is usually at least a couple used on Ebay at any given time .. sometimes there are all kinds of them ... if I get the urge to try a few sets of strings I usually pick up these to test them on, and have bought and sold probably 4 or 5 of them .. usually $250 range, but for a while they were all over between $200-225 ... goes in streaks .. they are very consistent basses, I wouldn't hesistate to buy sight unseen (if from reputable seller) ... JMHO
I had one for a while. It's a great bass, good warm tone. The neck is really comfortable, as well.
It's the best J bass that I ever played that was acce$$ible.
I had a lemon, but then got a good one.
Bought it online. Neck was bowed. High action and some buzzing.
Brought it in(to a fender certified shop, this is important) for a setup and they couldn't do much for it, discovered the truss rod was already maxed out.
Despite the fact that I was past my return policy the shop contacted fender about it. Fender agreed to look at it so we shipped it out, at my expense.
After a couple weeks they got back to the shop and said the neck was a poop so they sent me a new bass.
The new bass had a great neck! Nice easy truss rod, straight, low action, no buzzing other than the open A when played hard(this is common), stayed in tune.
I have this second bass to someone as a gift and miss it.
Oh and I forgot to add...
When the shop shipped it to fender it was in my soft case, packed in a box. When fender shipped it back it was in a new box. Hey where's my case.
The shop called fender but nobody knew what happened to it. The shop ends up giving me a new soft case b/c I stood there with a "are you F****** kidding me" look on my face.
I recently A/B'd one up against a RW Jazz and a Custom Shop Jazz... I was interested in the RW at the time as it's a (almost) direct replica of my 62 Jazz.
The RW (£900) came out on top closely followed by the CV! I was floored by the lovely feel and the stock pups, really captured the vibe nicely and I loved the glossy neck finish.
The CS was miles behind these two (£1200)!
Would make a great replica project bass.
Thanks guys. I was kinda worried that question might be too trivial!
Found my neighbor (whom I haven't actually met) selling one in Portland on Craigslist. Haven't heard back from him and the posting expired. Here's to hoping its not because they sold it!!!
Was sold. That's ok. I know that I'm kinda pathetic but please let me know if you come across one. Thanks!!
Great bass, especially for the money. Watch the TB classifieds. They pop up occasionally and go fast at around $250-275.
i played one down at the local mom and pop music store close to my house. I thing the only thing that might be a negative is the weight. I dont factor in weight as much, well it is not a deal breaker as much as some of the little girls on this site. for the price it is a great bass.
