A nice deep throaty roar when played. Lots of compliments on its tone.
What would shielding and new pickups get me?

The Jazz ones I'm not 100% familiar with, but playing them in the store they sounded pretty good too compared to my VM 70's RI jazz's stock pickups. YMMV, the feel is about the same with the VM's but I think the pickups are better on the CV's.

To my ears and hands, it felt and sounded better than the MIA Fenders, among others. The sound, the quality, and the feel have all been top notch. The only reason I didn't buy it the first time was because I needed a bass that looked visually different for a project, but now I'm thinking that a CV Jazz is in my future. Just an outstanding instrument.
Oh, and for those who might think that I don't have any or enough exposure to other "high-end" instruments to be able to tell the difference between what is good or not, my current main bass is a 1995 Warwick Thumb NT5, and I've previously owned basses that included a EBMM Stingray 5, a Fender Precision Lyte, and a Guild B-30. I'm telling ya, IMO, these CV jazzes can run with the big boys. If anyone tells you otherwise, go and try one out for yourself, and then decide. |

.. you can use the existing holes, but the two outside screws will be going in at a pretty sharp angle .. the stock screws are quite thin, so it will work, but not ideal ... |

I hear you about the wife. After 11 years now, my wife has pretty much given up on trying to stop me from buying bass gear. Matter of fact, she bought me my G&L SB-2 for our 10th anniversary.
