The othere mods seem pretty nice, btw. I'll retrieve my CV 50's wednesday from the luthier, who defretted it, put on an antique white pearl pg, and strung it BEAD (chromes). He told me she looks, sounds and plays nice

I thought it looked awesome as did everyone else I showed. So I cut the pickguard.
I just think it looks better this way. I always thought the original style pickguard looked like a giant piece of goofy plastic attached to a beautiful body. This design, imho, reminds me of decorative trim on a classic car that accentuates the lines of the bass instead of taking away from it.
Plus I'm pretty sure no one else has done it, so I guess I have that going for me at least.

...due to financial reasons, I had to rid myself of a Lakland 55-60 and and Fender American Vintage '75 reissue...so...I am a Squier user until I can tuck away enough funds for a real vintage Fender or perhaps even...dare I say...and Alleva Coppolo...
I have playing for ALOT of years and I can sound like ME just fine on any gig with either of these two...
It started off with the Pre Classic Vibe as I wanted to have a nice playin' Precision available but didn't really want to spend too much dough...so I picked up the Squier as a great backup and it is just too fun to play...
After I sold the Fender AV 75...I went down and picked up a Classic Vibe jazz...both of these do a very admirable job of hitting the sweet spots tone wise of their much more expensive counterparts....no shame in these bad boys whatsoever....and the best part...I don't worry a BIT about getting them ripped off at a gig...
The only "mods" I am thinking of is on the Jazz...I am going to go with the Aguilar (I freakin LOVE Aguilar gear!) AJ-60 pickups and some shielding...other than that...just the chrome pickup cover...oh....and the strap locks on both...I will also eventually replace the tuners with Hipshots and the Xtenders just for convenience sake...the stock tuners are not horrific but understandable so at this price point or a lil' weak....but certainly usable...
On last point before I post the pic...the small vintage style frets are the MAIN reason along with the slim neck profile and fretboard radius is what attracted me to these...after playing the Lakland i KNEW that my future basses could NOT have those jumbo or medium jumbo Fender frets...I much much much prefer these smaller frets...Lakie's use them I think for the most part...and custom basses/necks can be outfitted with these...but to have them standard on a $349 Squier was the cats nuts for me...don't quite get why anyone uses those gigantic cumbersome frets if that don't have too???
# please!!!
Thanks for listening TB |

Which one is a perfect replacement? | someone posted a part number for the white pickguard a couple of posts up. I recently bought a CV 60 Precision and ordered a tortoise guard for it (see photos on page five). the original white one is right here with the plastic cover and sticker still on it. the tortoise cost $24.99, I'm sure the white one is the same. I ordered through GC, so with shipping and taxes I was out the door for under $30. I'd part with my white one for $15 plus shipping; I'm in Phoenix. Let me know.

I just got my Squier CV 50 Precision back from the luthier, who defretted it, and put BEAD strings (Chromes) on it, and also put in another jack out (the original sat loose, and made cracking noises). The decal (and thus new name, "Squier Blue Baby Imprecision" in full) is my own. The antique pearl pickguard is from Jeannie's. Behold!
This is a combination of pics, more details in that same PhotoBucket album!
Wonderful, very double-bass-like sound, this instrument really SINGS! Very comfy too, especially compared to the slightly neck-
diving VM Jaguar. A winner!

I think I'm gonna go ahead and order though...

I just wanted to post that I've just put a fender vintage bridge on my CV jazz.
I know others have changed the bridge ( I already have a Gotoh 201 on my CV P) but what surprised me was I didn't need to re drill or fill any holes. I had read a lot about people having to do this, and in fact I paid a shop to change the P bridge. I wish I had checked first.

I'm just wondering if they still come with the bridge cover? I heard the fiesta red does not.
***Edit, never mind, looks like they are no longer available in sonic blue...***
Thanks,
Steve

Was thinkin' about addin' the sonic blue 60s to the order but it's no longer available and the fiesta red just doesn't do it for me. I think I'll be happy with this. Gonna swap out bridge with a vintage style 4 saddle one and put chrome covers on. Also flatwound strings. Can't wait! The only other decision is keep the black guard or see if a tort would look good...
Not my picture, but this bass looks awesome! |

Not my picture, but this bass looks awesome! | That does look awesome!! The LPB wasn't my thing, but this one is giving me some serious GAS.

This one looks good with the tinted neck. Also, the Squier logo looks like it doesn't stick out too bad. But that's not even a issue or a care.
I talked to another member who said the bridge cover did fit over this one but was a little tight. When I get everything, if I think the cover will work, I probably wont do a bridge swap.
I'm hopin' I get lucky like Dave and my vintage style bridge will go on without any plugging/redrilling. Although if the holes don't line up, I'll just have Brian at the Low End bass shop do it since I will be bringing him the bass for a setup.
I gotta check with Brian on who does his finishes cause if it turns out I really like this bass (I'm sure I will), I might order another and have the body refinished in a 2 tone sunburst.
