| | | | SS Jaguar vs Bronco Wanted to get a Bronco and been checking them out at different locations and it could be coincidence but all the ones I saw had sharp edges at the end of the frets all the way up and down the neck and was sort of a turn off for me. Wound up with the Jaguar.
Can anyone comment on the fret issue and would that be an easy fix?
I'm looking to mod a Bronco eventually. |

I've heard of problems with high action messing with intonation but have never had that problem, so basically it's second/third hand info. Maybe go with a .105 E if you're currently using .100.
gip111: Aounds like the Bronco you tried was a victim of shrunken fretboard syndrome. The board dried a little more after completion. They aren't all like that (at least the one I had for awhile wasn't) so be patient and wait for another to pop up. StewMac sells files for that and it's actually satisfying to do a proper fret dress yourself. Proper. I put a scratch on one of my basses during the learning process that still haunts me even though I'm the only one who can see it. |

IMO, the SS Jag isn't stiff enough to get it much lower, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else chimes in with lower action. |

No, my action is very low. I have tried Rotosound Trubass 88s and the e string was way worse, sounded lifeless.

| | | | Australia Fender Tax..... CAN WE GET A FEW PHOTOS OF PEOPLES STRING ACTION - JUST WAN'T TO GET AN IDEA OF HOW LOW PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH SETTING THESE SHORT SCALES UP.
Hi all got mine today, I am a guitarist who has decided to move to bass. I am in Australia here we pay a "Margaret" Tax [I think thats the cows name] Every Fender/Squier Product sold in Australia is severely marked up so some old bag gets her slice as she owns the rights for Fender product here. The retail price for this model is $399 The cheapest you can buy it for is $240 - I am very happy with quality of the bass it is in mint condition and plays very nicely. I plan on travelling to the USA in the next few months where I will post home a bunch of new Squier Vintage modified guitars and basses for my personal use.
I don't mind paying a tax but these instruments are made in Indonesia if anything they should be cheaper here. End Rant...
Plan on keeping it stock for the moment, I may add noiseless pickups at some point [And a Red Tortoise Shell Pickguard, mmmm sexy] - other than that this bass seems well made and the Short Scale makes it a dream to play, standard scale sucks dog balls as far as I'm concerned.
Heres my baby, Can I have a number please.

The 1/2" diameter post was a little too small as the pegholes are just a bit bigger for the stock tuners so to help the fit, I wrapped the tuner post with foil tape to make it nice and snug.
Here's a shot of my Jag SS with the ultralites. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attach...8&d=1351043656
I also looked at the Gotoh tuners like this one http://www.allparts.com/TK-0923-010-...de_p_3718.html
I see that this tuner uses a 9/16" diameter peghole. That might be a perfect fit but then again, it maybe too big. It all depends on the peghole size on your bass.
Happy Holidays!

Here is the headstock of the one refinished in burgandy mist.

| | Just days from retirement. | | Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: Lincoln, NE | | | Big difference between different ones as far as I've seen. Both in weight, fit, paint quality, and especially in the wood. The wood in the one that is burgundy mist was very good. Two pieces of hardwood that was the devil to get the poly off of and took minimal time to sand, fill, and prep for paint. The second one was silver and completely different in terms of wood. Six pieces, two good pieces of hard wood, and four different pieces of softwood or at least very open pores. Just a touch of the heat gun and the paint and undercoat/sealer fell off. I never could get it to stop graining once the paint hit it. My luthier had a very hard time getting it to take the sanding, fill and sealer to be good enough to paint. The nitro isn't perfect, but I think it's acceptable. Might have been easier to get some Krylon instead the nitro, but done is done. The necks must come from a different factory as they are almost identical and of good quality.
Still, for what you pay and what you get, one can't really complain. Luthier and I were thinking that's maybe why they have the 1/4" of sealer on them under the poly.

I've been playing this bass for quite awhile now. I put Fralins in it, the J pickup is overwound 10%. The volume is very even. Sounds Great!

I need to get some new pics of the stealth bass. I'll finish it one day. I kept the stock P pickups and added an alumaJ. It sounds very good!

I know a lot of people have reported problems with Jeannies, but I had none of it, and the guard looks good.
