Hopefully I'll have it back soon, in reassembly stage. Think I uploaded a picture two or three pages back.

I don't think there is much else I will do. Have a Dragonfire J pickup coming in soon and that may just be the last mod this bass needs.
Might still do a paisley or black pearl pickguard. But I like the look of the black guard and headstock matching. I was hesitant about the inlay stickers when I first bought them. Thought they would look cheesy. But the white silver pearl really fits well with the silver body. Love them.
Crappy phone pic, but you can see it.

I need to see if the top control plate will fit right and then route for it. |

Shucks! | I like being able to play a bass before buying too. But with the Jag I wouldnt be afraid of buying out right. I know with Musicians Friend or Guitar Center you can order with free shipping. So you wouldnt be out much if you hated the bass and you could sell it for not much less. Maybe you can order one at a local GC and let them take the risk if you dont like it? Good luck. The Jag is a great bass. Im not a beginner and I love mine. Its gonna be around with me along time.

| | | | Hey guys, Just got mine in last week. After playing a 34" scale Peavey for the last five years and having had a Squier VM Jazz and of course trying every bass in every shop I can find, I gotta say that this is an incredible instrument. Don't think I'm going back!
I'd like to join up!

| | Old Newbie | | Join Date: Nov 2012 Location: Christchurch, New Zealand | | Say hello to my new Short Scale Jag, henceforth known as Short Black! Could I get a number?
This is my first bass for about sixteen years, during which time I've drifted through guitar, mandolin and ukulele (arguably a very small bass?) before coming back to the big strings. I'm essentially a newbie with vague memories of being bad at bass in a past life.
Blessed as I am with short arms and small hands, the short scale is fantastic, and it seems to have been achieved with very little compromise in sound.
For the Australian who complained how much the guitar cost there, try living in New Zealand. Then when you're finished crying at the bass price, look at the markup on Ampeg amps.
Anyway, I've complemented the bass with a thick leather strap (curing the neck dive), and I have an Ampeg BA110 on order. Took it to my first jam on Sunday, running it through a borrowed guitar amp, and we both acquitted ourselves surprisingly well.
A few questions - I've read through both threads, but it's a bewildering amount to take in.
1) What's the de-facto gauge of the strings? I seem to recall the stated gauge on the Fender page was probably exaggerated.
Would these strings fit nicely without any risk to the nut, etc?
2) Is there anywhere selling ready-to-fit replacement pick-guards? I think the black would look a lot less teenage with a tortoiseshell guard on there. No offense to any teenagers out there. I wanted a red one really, but black's a good second choice.
3) Do we have a known-good hard-case? The shop I bought the guitar from said they thought it fit in Fender Jazzmaster cases, due to the longer scale of the Jazzmaster, but they didn't have any in to check, and I'd have to order in if I was interested. I'm currently using a Warwick Rock Bag for an Acoustic Dreadnaught, which is a surprisingly good fit, but has too much lateral wriggle-room.
New Year's Resolution was to play some kind of public gig by the end of the year. This could be amusing! |

I'm always teasing uke players about their instruments being tuned WAY too high.
I am a short man with small hands and fingers, but was blessed with long arms, (35" sleeve on my 5' 7" frame, for those who know what that means) but I still like the short scale.
As to your New Year's resolution, I stumbled onto a crazy way to do it. I learned to play some songs that I could sing and went to open mics. Hey, it gets you in front of people!

I use D'Addario short scale Tapewounds on one of mine, and La Bella Beatle Bass Tapewounds on my other one. Don't see any reason the ones you mentioned wouldn't work.

Jeannie's Pickguards sells ones for these. You can look on eBay for them. One thing, as they state on their website is that the quality control on these isn't perfect the standard ones might not fit perfect for the screw holes. I sent mine in to them for an exact copy. Plus they will make one out of any type or color they offer.

I bought one from another TBer. I don't have the case here as it's with my bass waiting for reassembly, but I think it is a Douglas BGC-200 from Rondo Music. Rondo has a bunch of cases and two or three ought to work. Plus Fender has released a gig bag that fits them.
New Year's Resolution was to play some kind of public gig by the end of the year. This could be amusing! | Hope this helps. They are about as good as it gets for the money.
