Didn't shim the neck, I just dropped the bridge saddles as far as possible.
I'm still working on the nut height. I'm leaving it just a tad high until I get the flats on it.

REALLY GASing for a set of Nordstrand Big Splits for this bass..

Here's a pic of me rockin' mine at a worship gig with Red Letter Edition (band at my school). In the pic, strung with D'Addario nickels; currently strung with Chromes. Hmm..

| | | I have one from 2001 that I got off of ebay last summer. I, being a p bass guy, didn't like the 2 separate volume controls, so I installed a pan pot. Then I decided to put in a push/pull pot (in addition to the pan) to give it more of a p bass sound. It's sherwood green, and I was going to strip the paint and see what I could do (If it had good grain I was going to give it a natural finish). But I realized that It would be more than I'm capable of doing, so I left it green. I plan on slapping a brown tort on it when I can blow the money to have one made. I would like to put a p pickup in it, but don't have a router. |

Nice bass solo on a Squier 5. Wonder if it's stock or modded ?

I'm thinking I might install some DiMarzio Area J pickups sometime- from what I've heard, the 5-string version will fit in these dang pickup routes without too much modification.

The routes in the bass are the same size as 4-string Jazz neck pickups (both the same size) so a 5-string DiMarzio Area J is probably not going to fit without some work, and the pole-piece alignment on the 4-string neck model may be not much improvement over the stock pickup.
As I've said this is not from experience, just my understanding from reading this thread and doing my own research into pickup dimensions, you probably need to double-check your bass and your chosen pickups.
Andy

Andy | Thanks Andy. I'm going to do some measurements and it will be a while yet before I purchase the pickups.
