I own a Fender MIM Squire series Precision bass #MN410529. Rivals my American basses. I've always wondered about it.. No mods done to it and the white has turned yellow. Was this made before or after the fire of February 94?

I *love* the black label MIM Fender Squier series basses. I picked up my '93 MIM P for $200 shipped because of that little Squier series decal on the headstock. The body had some dings and the pups in it were decent enough but I replaced them and the wiring harness anyway (and they're actually sitting on the floor next to me waiting to be stuffed in a project.) Not a single other problem except that the control cavity was a bit 'hairy' and needed to be sanded down.

I've played a few others and they've been good basses as well with some minor tweaking. Any time I'm in the market for another workhorse bass or mod platform, I keep my eye out for these things because you can usually get them at a steal (compared to 'regular' MIM's). And it's all because of that little decal on the headstock. Now if I can find a white Jazz black label in good condition... Hmm....

*Edit* Ah crap, didn't notice it was a necro-thread. I still stand by what I say about them though. Hehe

How do I get a three ply P PG to fit on this damn thing, less filing and whatnot?

On mine, I swapped pg's around with no problem. From the red (aftermarket) that was on it when I got it, to a purple mirror from WD that was specifically spec'd for MIM Fender Pbasses, to the 3 ply wbw that I took off my American Standard. They all fit with no issue, all the holes lined up just fine.

Now, all the PGs I've used on it have been specifically made for Fender. I haven't tried getting an ebay special that may or may not fit perfectly on Fenders or anything like that.

Before the Squier by Fender JV (japan vintage) series started with the brand "Squier" in Europe and the US, it was for the japanese market only.
Those were exactly the same guitars and basses as the later JV series - but with a Fender decal and a very small Squier Logo.
Very rare, rarer than the Squier JV models.
Nice guitars, especially the Stratocasters (with original US pups) and the 52 Tele.
The basses are good, too.
Japanese quality of the 80s, sometimes better than US quality...
