Vintage Modified 70's Jazz. Pretty good bass, nice low action and fun to play. No major mods, only a knob change to "proper" ones and a pickup cover.

The one shown in my Avater is a VM. I changed the tuners and electronics, refinned in nitro, reshaped the taper on the neck, changed the nut, etc.. Great bass, though I sold it recently. I need to do another.

Here are a few more pics -

Count me in!

Here's my VM fretless, currently in the process of initial mild asethetic mods:

Swapped out knobs for black; in the process of installing cream pearl pickguard shown (I'm not in love with the exposed, not very well matched, multi-piece body).

They're great basses for the cash. Fatness personified.

I was lucky, I got a 2-piece body with well-matched wood, but I must admit I was a little bothered by purchasing online and not seeing the bass beforehand for the reason you stated.

Have you tried Q-Tuners? I always wondered about those. Great looking pickups.

I have the Jazz fretless, and the Telebass.

Jazz got a set of TI Flatwounds, a StewMac rolling string tree, and a perspex finger ramp between the pickups.

Telebass got a three way coil tap switch and a thumbrest.

Picked mine up a few weeks ago, $330 a steal for a nice looking and sounding bass.
Swapped the bridge to a Gotoh 201 I had around right away, and swapped in some USA Fender pups a few days ago. Currently waiting on some new pots and parts from Buzzards Bass Shop.

i own a VM precision. good bass for the money. it is slightly less playable and slightly worse sounding than an american p-bass. for like 1,000 dollars less. works for me, it's a solid backup for a 21y/o.
