Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar

Hey TB, I'm having issues with the weight of my main bass, I'm considering making it my secondary bass and putting it in drop D. The only issue is that the only other bass I have is a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special H with horrible intonation and Cheeto finger strings. I need to gig with it but I would prefer something like the regular Squier VM Jaguar, the more pricy version with way better pickups, need more versatility than humbuckers. Maybe going to GC and doing a trade in thing for the upgrade? Any thought would be nice thanks!

I tried all of the VM jaguars,and I think you should try the VM JAG special with the P+J setup before you jump on the stack pot version. the active P+J setup sounded the best of the three. it's really punchy with that active bass boost and if you get the red version that has a basswood body,it'sd pretty light too.

I'm choosing between those two also. which do you suggest? based on the youtube review of fendermusical i've watched. the stacked pot version sound thinner than the special. Do you have same observation?

I previously owned the red basswood P/J version, but I tell you
3TS is basswood as well and more classy too

and yes

P/J basswood body Special with phatboost control is a truckload of funk features

Stacked knobs/black only version is heavier tho' thinner soundin', why?

I played both at GC yesterday and I found the nicer version sounded better on it's own, and the Special only sounded good with the bass boost turned up. On their own the pickups in the Special are pretty bad, and the Duncan Designed pups in the other were quite good. I did find the Special could give a punchier tone when the boost was used, but I would not choose a bass that is handicapped by bad pickups and where an active bass boost is a neccessary crutch to get a good sound. The regular model also had nicer hardware, some may say the hardware is identical but I found the tuners and bridge on the Special to be rougher castings than the more expensive model.

yeah,the stacked pot version seemed a little weak( I need all the bright ass punch I can get for teh metals). if youre going for more of a standard classic rock bass,the standard might be your thing. in regard to fourbangers post, are you say it's better to sound mediocre on a bunch of settings than to sound really good on one?

also,the hardware onm both basees is still goiung to be a standard bent tin fender bridge and tuners that are just like the tuners on every other fender I've played. I Own this bass by the way,and had the money to buy either of them,or a jackson dinky bass,and this is what I picked.

Too bad the stacked pot version has also 3TS with white block inlays and tort pickguard yet is uses A G A T H I S. Might order the Squier VM Jag Special this coming days.

I have the Jaguar "Standard", and admittedly I favor the P, but I definately wouldn't say it sounds thin.
