Squier VM Jag vs Fender MP Jag

Can anyone comment on the quality/tonal differences? Is the Modern Player Jag worth the extra hundred bucks?

It is

Its koto body
(a Centrafrican Tek kinda wood) coupled by satisfyin' pickups, tend to allow a combination of P and J sounds, always on the fly, whenever favorin' one pickup or another, all with a look in between a Geddy Lee Jazz and somethin' even more Vintagey

Cheers,
Wallace

I've got a Modern Player Jag, please search for my posts concerning quality and mods I've made.

I'm very happy with mine. Mine is my favorite 4-string bass.

All the best with the decision.

Thanks. I'll check out those posts. One thing I noticed is that the neck tint on the Fender website seems fairly light whereas other pics of the bass (owner photos) show a much darker vintage tint (which I like)

It's darker. The finish on both the body and neck is extremely like a Geddy Lee. Very thick, slick, and tinted.

Just turned me off to one. I hate thick finishes & tinted necks. I was going to look at one for a replacement body on my MIM P.

Better to find out before you order. Honestly, you notice the slick finish a lot more on the neck than body. I used a green Scotchbrite pad on my neck to take some of the gloss off. It feels great to me now.

I think its one of the best Fenders out there. Especially bang for the buck. Just wished they offered more color options. Big fan of Jags in general.
