The Squier VM Mustang Club

I noticed quite a few more people are getting Squier VM Mustang's and thought I would start the VM Mustang Club so all the owners could have a thread to post pics, discuss and show any mods they might have of this great little 30" scale affordable Bass. I will keep the first post updated with # list.

I'll start it off with my VM Modified Mustang....

Here is the link to what I have done to my Mustang from when I got it stock...I plan on getting the new Mikey Way Mustang also as soon as I can find one in-stock somewhere..

Are the necks on the Fender Mustang interchangeable with the Squiers (and vice-a-versa)? I can see that the radius on a Fender Mustang neck is 7.25 while the Squiers are 9.25. Not sure where the radius is (on the neck) that they are using.

I believe they are interchangeable...I'm pretty sure they are referring to the fretboard radius. The Squier fretboard is a little more flat than the MIJ Mustangs fretboard

I have one of these sitting in my cart @ MF, waiting on my tax return. I also have the MIM version, I really wanted a "respected" name instrument just because who doesnt? But the more I read and watch you tube, I might just go with 2 VM Mustangs and save some $$$. I want 2 not because of gas and money to spend, but I want to switch to short scale's and my band plays in Eb and drop D. Im lazy and would rather pick up another and constantly tune.

Cool..When you get your VM mustang it would be great if you could compare the difference in them...Tone, feel & build quality..That's a good Idea to have 2 of them

Howdy, I'm somewhat new and am not quite sure how these clubs work, but sign me up if you please.

Here's mine. I think the black pickguard on black instrument can be sorta boring. I'm looking into replacing my pickguard in the near future.

You are #3 MisterStompy
So how do you like your VM Mustang?

Here is a good source for Mustang Pickguards:

Some question TK4261.
1.How much Squier VM Mustang weight?
2.What solders use in Squier VM Mustang project?

Can I join the club? Here's a pic of my Squier Mustang Bass. This is my only bass right now and I'm gigging with it and lovin' it. I have small hands and have always wanted to get a short scale but since pretty much everything available is a budget bass, I thought I wouldn't be getting a quality bass that sounds good. NOT! I can't find any fault with this bass, even the pickups rock. The neck is so perfect for me and easier to play than my previous full scale (more expensive) basses. I thought the original strings were a little weak and replaced them with D'Addario XL Nickel Wound .045-.100. I'm playing through a Tech21 ParaDriver DI into an EV SxA250 powered speaker and find myself quite content. At some point I'd like to get the black one as a backup.

I do wish there were more case options for this size bass. I'd love to get a serious padded gigbag but the only ones I can find are either too big or cost more than the bass.

Cheap Case ? Try a hardshell shotgun case at sporting goods shops ,you might find one that fits

As far as gig bags go, how about the fender short scale bass gig bag? I use it from time to time to transport my mustang, fits nice and offers a good amount of protection. Got mine from sweetwater for a little less than what is on the site through my rep, they should have more in stock within the next couple weeks.

My Squier Mustang which is currently being loaned out to a friend.

May end up just letting him keep it as a Christmas present though since he seems to have gotten attached to it. I'm patiently waiting for mf to have their next 20% off sale so I can snag another. Was pleasantly surprised how close in quality these came with the fender models, definitely worth every dime and more (I'd still like a nice deal though ). May I join the club?

That's exactly what I was looking and had no idea they were available. I'll definitely get one when they arrive at SW. THANKS
