I can see that the radius on a Fender Mustang neck is 7.25 while the Squiers are 9.25. Not sure where the radius is (on the neck) that they are using. |

The Squier fretboard is a little more flat than the MIJ Mustangs fretboard

I also have the MIM version, I really wanted a "respected" name instrument just because who doesnt? But the more I read and watch you tube, I might just go with 2 VM Mustangs and save some $$$. I want 2 not because of gas and money to spend, but I want to switch to short scale's and my band plays in Eb and drop D. Im lazy and would rather pick up another and constantly tune. |

Here's mine. I think the black pickguard on black instrument can be sorta boring. I'm looking into replacing my pickguard in the near future.

So how do you like your VM Mustang?
Here is a good source for Mustang Pickguards: Fender® Mustang® Bass

| | | Can I join the club? Here's a pic of my Squier Mustang Bass. This is my only bass right now and I'm gigging with it and lovin' it. I have small hands and have always wanted to get a short scale but since pretty much everything available is a budget bass, I thought I wouldn't be getting a quality bass that sounds good. NOT! I can't find any fault with this bass, even the pickups rock. The neck is so perfect for me and easier to play than my previous full scale (more expensive) basses. I thought the original strings were a little weak and replaced them with D'Addario XL Nickel Wound .045-.100. I'm playing through a Tech21 ParaDriver DI into an EV SxA250 powered speaker and find myself quite content. At some point I'd like to get the black one as a backup.
I do wish there were more case options for this size bass. I'd love to get a serious padded gigbag but the only ones I can find are either too big or cost more than the bass. |

| As far as gig bags go, how about the fender short scale bass gig bag? I use it from time to time to transport my mustang, fits nice and offers a good amount of protection. Got mine from sweetwater for a little less than what is on the site through my rep, they should have more in stock within the next couple weeks. |

May end up just letting him keep it as a Christmas present though since he seems to have gotten attached to it. I'm patiently waiting for mf to have their next 20% off sale so I can snag another. Was pleasantly surprised how close in quality these came with the fender models, definitely worth every dime and more (I'd still like a nice deal though ). May I join the club?

I'll definitely get one when they arrive at SW. THANKS | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
