Squire Jazz vs. OLP stingray

I was thinking that I need a backup bass because I am one of those giging bass players who only has one bass. I recently sold 2 basses to get one '77 Fender P.
So there I was in my local pawn shop and I see a Squire Jazz for $109 and a OLP Stingray copy for $69. I almost grabbed the OLP as an impulse buy for that low dough.
How many of you play or have played either of these basses and what do you think of each?

Buy both & flip the one you liek less. Both are decent.

That's a great idea, but what if I am broke as a joke and can only buy one?

The OLP. LIke any bass it can be upgraded w/ great results. You can't beat that price. WHere are these basses located exactly? Squiers always come up on CL for around $100 but not OLP & not that low.

That's good to now that OLP's dont' come up that often. It's up in Lewiston Maine. I have read that they were fairly crappy, but I think for $69.... I've pissed away more than that just drinking beer this weekend!

I had an OLP years ago. I never owned a real Stingray, I liked it well enough. I've never owned a Squier Jazz, I play my cheapie $89 SX jazz bass stock dailly. I think the Jazz might be more versatile, however $69 for the OLP sounds like a good deal. I wouldnt mind having that bass again for that price.

They let you play it a while? As long as it plays well, grab that.

I've owned an OLP 'Ray' and honestly, I say go with the Squire as long as it's in good shape. At least Squires have some recognition and resale value. I was not pleased with my OLP, although it was one of the early ones that came out around 2005/6 so maybe I just got a lemon.

I got a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz, and it's pure love. My Schecter that cost more than twice as much, is now my back-up.

No, chucknorris, I didn't plug either. The neck on the Squire was bowed, and the frets were sticking out through the binding in a few spots. The OLP could stand a good set-up as well. But I might go back and try them both out. Much love on here for the Squires. But this particular neck is a little tweaked, probably salvageable. We'll see, I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.
