from stacks to VVT on AV 62 RI Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have recently acquired an AV 62 RI Jazz that I quite like. It was bought as a backup and kind of alternative bass to my main bass that is a 2000 USA Jazz (natural ash, maple neck).

My 2000 Jazz has more punch and focus to the sound than the 62, but I’m warming to the tighter radius on the neck, the neck being rosewood and the more vintage sound of the 62.

What I’m really struggling with are the stack knobs. I’m finding it hard to dial in the tone that I think I might be able to get from a VVT control.

My question is how straightforward is it to change from stacks to VVT? Will I get more of the VVT tone that I’m getting with my 2000 if I do change? Will there be any change in the tone at all by changing? Are there better tone circuits than a standard Fender? Should I just get over this issue and stick with the stacks and get used to them…?

Lots of questions, sorry.

You'll have to experiment... you can get loaded plates off the bay (you know that of course). Maybe get one and try.

I was looking for a loaded stack set up for my 62 (VVT), I just wanted to try and I've always loved the look.

Usurped now by me fitting a J-Retro, I wont be swapping back!

I prefer stack-knobs, that just me.
No real sound difference.
And the look so cool.

another way is to keep the stack knob look and make one of the stack knobs work as a volume for each pickup and the other one a master volume and a master tone. it's my favorite stack knob system since i like having a master volume and have the ability to blend the pickups. you just need two 500/500 stacked pots to do it.
