Nay the only decent stuff made by stagg is guitar accesories eg; Straps, Cases, Picks etc... (Not strings though), and Cymbals, the cymbals are really good quality.

I tried a few of there basses and they made a few I liked but these where the highest end ones they make. But even them where seriously overpriced and not worth it.

There cheap basses are crap, bad quality and bad electronics and bodywood, not worth it at all.

I played a Warwick copy Stagg - horrible bass, muddy as hell, but was a good 2 week first-bass-practice-tool that I borrowed.
Another friend of mine had (or still does) an acoustic Stagg guitar. Absolutely awful, horrible neck, intonation, fretwork, action, sound, you name it.
Stagg is kind of known here for being cheap s**t.

The jazz copy you linked looks nice admitedly, but for $200, I'd rather get a used VM or CV Squier any day. Stagg usually go for less than $200 new too so that's weird. Hell I can get a new one for $200 and less here in Europe, where prices are a lot higher than USA!

I have a Stagg Semi-acoustic Jazz Guitar and I have to say that its construction is pretty acceptable.

It needed a fret-job & having done that & put on a set of flats, it is capable of an obscenely low action.

It's the hardware that lets it down. First thing I did was substitute a decent bridge, but if I were keeping it (I would, but have no use for a guitar of this type) I'd also be changing the tuners which feel really plasticky - but oddly, stay in tune pretty well. The pickups are a bit thin too, but the pots & selector switch are fine.

As I said, it now plays very well indeed, and you can always add EQ to make the pickups sound a bit thicker.

I'd have a look at the construction & if that's OK consider upgrading the hardware over time.

IMO they are crap!

My brothers first bass was a Stagg and they are worthless any entry level squire or ibanez or cort is going to be a lot better!

They are the Behringer of musical instruments!

Well I'm going to respectfully disagree, at least with respect to the electric upright they make (EDB4). For the price, and a little thrown into upgrades and setup, it can't be beat. Far better than a Dean Pace, for example.

Do some research here in the EUB section. Lots of fans of these basses.

Yep I will echo what pjmuck said, the EDB4 is quite nice for the money. Don't know about their other basses, but if the EDB is any sign of what they can do, you should go try one in person.

At the risk of stating the obvious - try one out. If you like it, fine.

Isn't there something in the posting rules about rippin' on makers & their products without a substantive ("Ihave palyed one and it was...) reason?

More interested in hearing about the product and it's virtues (or lack thereof) than just hearin' folks slaggin' 'em.

I've played a few Staggs and even a Stagg amp back in England. All of them were substandard in sound, feel and quality. I remember a particularly poor Tom Delonge strat style one that cut my hand on its sharp frets

I have one that my GF thinks is very pretty. I got it when I started learning to play and after a couple of weeks, I got a less "pretty", better sounding and better playing bass. I may, someday, use the body to build a good sounding and performing bass.

Smile Review: Love My New Stagg SHORTSCALE Acoustic Bass!

Just bought a new AB203CE acoustic bass. It's simply awesome! I picked it up in a local shop (Guitar Room) in Martinsburg, WV. Traded in my Ibanez Artcore bass. Wanted a bass that could play better acoustically.

Compact little 5 lb. bass next to my Alvarez 12-string. The bass fits in a 12-string hardshell case perfectly.

Picked up the little Stagg (It's a SHORTSCALE! 30") Thought, hmm, looks great, single cutaway, sunburst, abalone rosette, 4 way EQ, nice battery capsule. Felt like a high end bass in my hands.

Nice construction, finished with high gloss eurathane. Some smudges on the fretboard and some missing stain on inner edges of the sound-hole were a little annoying. I added the heal strap button since it didn't come with one. Another small annoyance...

Started to play-Oh My Word!!! No amp, no pick, this thing had the sweetest, deep mellow tone and surprisingly loud!
No buzzes anywhere, jumbo frets were dressed reasonably for a $300 bass.

Plugged in the sound was at least equal to the other AB's Ive tried. Like the "Bass Boost" slider that really warms up the sound to your liking. The bridge and saddle are like my Ovation Anniversary W/O pins and individual saddles. Not muddy and very little feedback.

Rosewood gives deep rich tone!

The shortscale and petit headstock means I won't be constantly hitting my fellow players during acoustic sets. (The Artcore was downright dangerous!) Why don't all acoustic basses have rosewood back and sides like this Stagg? Really gives the little bass a beautiful rich deep tone! The offset position markers is a nice touch.

I picked up a new acoustic Washburn AB10 for comparison and there was none. The AB10 was only marginally louder than my Artcore! And the tone was very thin. Couldn't say it was much better acoustically than my Artcore bass. The top is laminated like the other acoustic/electric Staggs so there isn't much brightness to the tone which in my opinion is a reasonable tradeoff for the additional warmth.

Compensated/isolated saddles. Intonation was off by a tad on the E and A strings due to the high nut string slots and with a little filing they also came in nicely. No truss rod or bridge adjustment was necessary since the action was just the way I like it.

I think Stagg has become the new "Harmony" or "Kay" company that sells cheap student quality guitars mainly and comes up with a few gems here and there, like the legendary H22 and the "Kelvinator" K162 which is being reissued for almost $700. Stagg's AB203 is a little gem of a bass as well.

Song recorded with me on the Stagg AB203 Bass

Here's the first song our Band, "David's Heart Band" has recorded with me playing my new Stagg Acoustic Bass. DI, with tube preamp and onboard EQ flat with slight bass boost.

Stagg AB203CE used in one of our new songs, "King David"

And I have to agree with this too! Mine was a b-stock at $249, but Victor Litz sells them all day at $499. The reason mine was a b-stock? No output, pulled the jack off (it's a strat style cup) and it started working, something must have been shorting it off, I simply put it back carefully and it's been working ever since!

I have never even seen another EUB at $499!
