Stambaugh

Hey guys!
I'm looking into getting a custom built bass, and so far stambaugh had looked to be the best for it. I want to get an eleven string, and I've been quoted prices as high as 16k, whereas stambaugh told me 3700.

All of you who own them, have played them, or have any opinion (this is TB, I know you do ) please share!

Chris is good and his prices are very reasonable. He's not always the most timely, but I can live with that given his price and quality. Going to put down a deposit on a guitar tomorrow and I already have a bass by him.

Spectacular! I'm still in school, so money doesn't come in fast, but it doesn't go fast either, so I can live with waiting.

I've had 3 Stambaughs built & owned one second-hand; they are EXCELLENT instruments regardless of price(I'm comparing w/Ken Smith, Pedulla, Warwick,Fender, Yamaha- al of which I've owned- plus many others I've played). Factor in Chris very reasonable pricing & he's hard to beat. As to the wait- I doubt any custom builder hits the target on that- further, I'd wager 99% of Chris' customers would say the end product is WELL worth the wait. One or two of mine are likely in here: TalkBass Forums: The Bass Guitar and Double Bass Online Community[part-3]-472970/

I'm a big Stammy fan. IMO huge bang for the buck. I own two Stammys and have a 3rd on the way. All look great and sound even better :-). As for Chris, he's just good people.

So let me get this right...you want two basses...a 5 string and a 6 string? Or you want an entire tree with 11 strings attached to it? I'm just mess'n around. Sounds cool, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. I want to see pics when you make your decision and get the ball rolling.

Chris built a Resonance 5 for me 2 years ago. Top quality and great value. It compares to my Tobias basses. It came out exactly as I asked for.
I got to visit his shop and saw several basses in the build queue and played a number
of them. All great instruments.
