Anybody have any video of him playing a Gibson EB-3?

Did he play an EB-3? I knew that early in his career Stanley Clarke played an EB-2 (the thinline semi-hollow double-cutaway ES335-shaped Gibson bass) but I'd never even heard that he wielded an EB-3.

Stanley used an EB-3 on the first return to forever album. i've seen him play a jetglo ric, an EB3, a telecaster bass and of course, his Alembics. in 1979 he even had ibanez make him an8 stringer (doubled 4).

ya, nobody associates him with distortion normally, but he used it a fair amount. and his rig these days always includes a little fender guitar amp.

The one with "La Fiesta" on it? That's the one I'd heard he used an EB-2 on.

According to an old Guitar Player Magazine cover story, that Ibanez 8-string -- as well as a couple MC924 Musician Series 4-strings -- were given to him by Ibanez during (or maybe after) he toured Japan. I.e., they courted him with their gifts, he didn't "have them make" him a bass.

...Unless I'm misremembering all this stuff?

actually, when i hung out with stanley (and billy cobham) at the namm show in '79, they did make & give him a couple of basses.

I think on the back of Where Have I Known You Before, there's a picture of Stanley with the EB-3?

I've seen this clip years ago, and like to link to it whenever someone say all-knowingly that Rick basses are one trick ponies. The 4000 is the least versatile Rick bass, but he gets a rather un-Rick like sound out of it.

He still sounds like Mr. Clarke to me(anyone that good deserves to be called MR.), no matter what he plays.

Stanley still sounds 100% Stanley, even tone-wise, with that Ric. I dig it!
