Starcaster Jazz or SX?

Sign in to disble this ad
Amazon.com: Starcaster by Fender Jazz Bass - 3-Tone Sunburst: Musical Instruments

saw Amazon is running the Starcasters at $168 for black, $173 for SB
are these a POS or useable?
like plywood bodies, sharp frets.. or anything like that?
anyone try 'em yet?

I've heard they're made in Indonsia,in the Cort factory,
but I see them in pretty cheesy,non-music shop discount shops..
what's the scoop?

Most likely I'll buy SX,
or there's always black or blue Affinities on NYC Craig's for $60-100
I sort of want a cheap sunburst J for practicing around the house

SX absolutely. Starcasters are absolute trash. SX might be entry-level, but it's 10x better than a Starcaster.

IMO,SX is better.

SX isn't the best, but when you put it against a starcaster?

I had a Starcaster Telecaster (guitar) copy and it was a pretty major piece of dog dump.

I own an SX P bass and an SX Telecaster and both are more than decent. Surprisingly good in fact.

SX !

You should definitely get an SX, I have one with the old headstock. Natural finish and maple neck. the SX pickups are trash, but if you change the pick ups, the SX basses play better than any mexican fender ive played or some signature japanese models. you can find some SX basses with the old headstock (the one that looks like a fender) on eBay.

I recommend the SX, and also don't plan to change anything. You need to get playing before worrying about modding a bass.
