STAY AWAY FROM WD MUSIC PRODUCTS!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
So I ordered a black pickgaurd for my new mim P bass last week from WD music products and after paying over 10 dollars shipping and waiting a week It arrived but what arrived was a fender 62 ri pickguard!!! Turns out the ditz that I talked to on the phone placed the order wrong, so I call the supervisor and he tells me I have to pay to ship it back to them and after that they may or may not give a refund! If I pay to ship this back this 30 dollar pickgaurd in the end will ending costing around 70 dollars! I will NEVER do business with them again!!

This seems to be a pattern with WD. What a shame.

Never dealt with them personally. Probably never will, at this point.

Wow, I've not heard one decent review of those guys.

What is a good recommended site for black abalone jazz bass (MIM) pick guards? I can't seem to find a reputable site...

Guitar Parts | Bass Guitar Parts | Amp Parts | AllParts.com

or I take it to my local luthier and have him cut one. It cost more, but it's done right.

The pickguard for my Geddy from WD fit, but just barely. It needed a bit of trimming and two of the screwholes were misaligned.

I've bought 3 from Warmoth over the last couple years. 2 for my Jazz and one recently for my buddies Tele guitar. All were perfect and the guy on the phone was awesome.

Some years ago I sent a pickguard to Chandler to have them match it. Come out perfect as well.

Just some fyi for ya.

I would consider selling it on eBay or in the classifieds here then buy the one you need elsewhere rather than dealing further with WD.

I wonder if things have changed at WD? I bought several pickguards from them over the years and never had a problem. It's been a couple of years since my last purchase.

TB needs a sticky thread of businesses that deserve to be TB boycotted. Unless there is one and I missed it!

To the OP:

File a dispute with your CC company. You still haven't received what you ordered. Receiving some random merchandise from the vendor doesn't count.

first off, boycotts never work. second, i can only imagine the lawsuits flying if tb ever got into the blacklisting business. it's one thing to let people spout opinions, and another thing to officially take a stance.

I've dealt with them a few times and don't have any complaints.

The only problem I had was that they sent a pickguard with the wrong pickup configuration, but they sent me a new one at no charge and didn't even ask for the first one back. This was about 10 years ago though, so things may have changed.

Above & beyond

I recently bought a Fender P5 body from bass butcher Reliable fender. WD was the only place I could find a custom pickguard other than stock black, white, tortoise shell. They asked me to make a template to make sure of fitment. I told them that I didn't trust my template making skills so they sent me a copy of their P5 template for free to make sure it was the proper pickguard. Granted they made 69.00 on a custom pickguard, but they didn't have to waste their time, material, postage, if they were not interested in making me happy. Pickguard template sent was perfect fit. I ordered 2 that fit perfectly when they arrived. My 2 cents.

The biggest problem I see with the OP's situation is not the fact that he was sent the wrong item, stuff happens, but rather they won't pay for shipping back when it was THEIR fault? Every other company handles things that way.

Either talk to the supervisor's boss or call your CC company. I'll be sure never to use them.
