The confessions of a GAS sufferer....
I've been wanting a five-string p-bass for some time now, but our finances are always limited and I've been waiting for either someone's extraordinary generosity to kick in for Christmas or to have a month when all revenue comes in like it's supposed to and we don't need to fix something on the car or house or whatever.
Then I noticed something odd happening on Amazon the last week or so; I put together a wish list and included on it a Luna Paz Lenchantin signature 5-string, one of the few candidates for an under-$1000 P fiver, normally $599. Surprisingly, it was posted cheap, around $320. Then, almost every day, the price dropped a few bucks, to $310, 290, 270, until yesterday it was at $256.
I couldn't believe it. I literally lay awake at night thinking about it, wanting to pull the trigger and buy myself one, then holding off. I knew that if I spent the money right now, a) we can't really afford it and some important bill would not get paid and b) my wife would (justly) give me hell for spending money on myself a week before Christmas. So I told myself, I'll hold off another week. Maybe the price will keep dropping. What if I can get one the day after Christmas for $220? For $200?
All this time the Amazon site stated that there were five left in stock. Yesterday, someone went and bought one. Four left in stock.
I went back on today to check the price.
It had snapped back up to $599.
What the hell was that all about? Was there some sort of computer glitch making the price drop, and the one they sold caused them to catch it? Or was it something else?
So today, my friends, I am in mourning. (Cue weepy violin music). Mourning for the Paz signature I will probably never own. I know $599 still counts as pretty affordable in the world of musical instruments, but it's going to be some while before I can justify spending that. And by the time I can, the Yamaha BB425 will be out... and the Schecter Diamond P5... and the world will have moved on...
Of course, it's always possible that the one person in the world who noticed the Paz at $256 and bought it did it for me for Christmas... but probably not... oh the agony....
