Stereo Jazz Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
So over the past few weeks I have been formulating a crazy idea. I want to have a jazz set up in stereo with an output jack for each pickup, kind of like a ric.
My idea was to have stacked volume/tone pots for each pup and use the leftover hole for a second jack
Has anybody here done something like this?

My old Carvin LB50 from the 1980's was set up for stereo output.

Back around 1980, I modded my 69 jazz. I put a stereo jack in place of the original mono, then wired the neck pup out of one side, and the bridge pup, through the tone pot, out the other side. I had two identical EVM 15L single 15 custom cabs, a traynor bassmaster, and some old Peavey solid state head.

The neck pup went straight to the Bassmaster, and the bridge pup went through a Little muff, and a Small Stone phase shifter, to the Peavey. It was awesome.

I played it that way for about 6 years, before restoring the original wiring. Made no new holes, and only had to buy a stereo jack.

Yes. I did that as a mod for a couple friends j's back in the latter 70's. For the output I used standard stereo 1/4 jack. Like for headphones with 1/4 inch stereo plug. And built Y cord for the stereo quarter inch plug to 2 regular mono 1/4inch jacks. For regular guitar cable. Made the y cords about 6feet llong. So the player wouldnt be dragging the two guitar cables around so much. Left and right guitar cables. Feed em to diff effect pedals or whatever your wanting for stereo.

The reason we opted against two seperate mono l&R guitar cable jacks on the bass. Was the two guitar cables seems a bit much right there. Headphone extension or Y cable cords of the day being fairly robust as long as your not constantly stepping on them like one might on instrument cable. Or create suitable Y cord for feeding signal to two wireless guitar units.
