Sterling HH very loud in midranges... Anybody else?

Sign in to disble this ad
My Sterling HH is much louder on the A string particularly on the 7th - 10th frets. My Eden Navigator registers 5 LED volume lights vs 2-3 on my E string. Its very noticeable. I use the compressor on the Eden to even it out but are others having the same issue, do I have a bad bass, bad setup etc. Any EQ doesn't matter
What do do besides have a compressor on all the time?

Thanks
Mike Tuna

BTW My Sterling H has no such issues.

I tuned in here because I've got an older MM Sabre, which has a HH layout and dimensions more like the Sterling than their Stingray.

I'm wondering two things. First, is this the only set of strings you've ever had on this bass? Some are simply not as balanced in their sound or output as others.

The other more fundamental thing I need to bring up in case you haven't checked it is the height of your string saddles on the bridge. If that violator is lower than the others, it could be the cause of your "honking".

Where do you have the selector switch? Does this happen with all selector settings? 'Series' setting will boost mids while the 'Paralell' setting will scoop the mids. What about pickup height? Have you adjusted the pickups? How is your Eden EQ'ed?

I could do a string change. I'll try the height adjustment as well.
The selector switch doesn't alter the level difference.
Its new & probably could use a good setup.

If none of those things fixes the issue, you can always return the bass or exchance it for a new one. Did you notice this issue when you played it at the store thru another rig?

I could get my cash back but I like the bass... I can FINALLY get close to a P tone, the Sterling H is no where near it!
I'll stick with the compressor. I love that Eden Navigator, screw all this lightweight stuff!

2 month bump.
I was playing my HH just today & noticed I'm WAY loud on the 10th fret vs the 5th fret regardless on knobs, amp, toggle.
Anybody else?

Could it be a hotspot (or two) on the neck? The opposite of a deadspot?
