Sterling by Musicman SUB Ray4 Bass PROBLEM

I just purchased a Sterling by Musicman SUB Ray4 Bass from Guitar Center. What I purchased is defiantly NOT what I ordered.

The output jack is supposed to be on the top of the body on the control plate. What I received has the jack on the outside on the bottom. I can't use this guitar with this jack location as I am disabled and cannot stand up to play. I was really excited about this guitar, I could not afford a real Stingray.

From their website:

http://www.sterlingbymusicman.com/sub-bass

Top Mounted Output Jack
No more fumbling trying plug in the cable. The output jack is conveniently placed on top of the body. Located on the control plate, the jack is secure and won’t easily pull out or get damaged when placed in a guitar stand. We use a heavy duty jack that is designed to withstand plenty of use and abuse.

The attached photo shows what I received. Anybody got any ideas what the story is?

That's a Sterling type, not a Stingray. Not the same model. Only the 2 band EQ Stingray models have the top mount jack

I think you received an SB 14 not a Ray 4.

Not an SB14. Those have a three way switch. If you look carefully, there is no switch. Hmm.

GuitarTarzan, have you tried using a cable with a 90 degree angled plug? I prefer monster bass cables with the angle plug. Maybe that can work for you.

Yes, this is NOT a Stingray, did not say that it was. And you are wrong, at least according to their website, which says:

That page is talking about the SUB RAY4. It is a different bass from the one you got. The webpage is talking about this bass.

A SUB RAY4

You got this bass.

a SUB SB4

I could not find that one on their website. Sterlings have the output jack on the side. If you want the top mounted jack I suggest you check and make sure you ordered the RAY4 instead of the SB4. I think you may have accidently ordered the SB4 because it is $30 cheaper than the RAY34 ($249 vs $279). If you did then I suggest you return it and order the RAY34. If you did order the RAY34 then I would complain and ask that they exchange it for the correct bass. I would also ask them to throw in a free set of strings or something for the inconvenience (only if they messed up, if it was your fault then they don't owe you anything).

Beat me to it. OP he's right, you received a SBMM SUB SB4 (Sterling) instead of the SBMM SUB Ray4 (Stingray) that you're looking for.

Hi Miner,
thanks for the input. I actually called Guitar Center to place this order as their website didn't have a picture. So, I defiantly wanted a Ray4, the dude on the phone put that in for me. They may have sent me a SUB SB4 instead. I am working with them to clear it up, they are being very cool about it. This info you provided will help I think.

I'm not wrong, the one pictured on their site is based on a 2 band Stingray. The bass you received is based on the Musicman Sterling bass. Ernieball/MM made it really complicated with all this 'Sterling' naming across their product lines but I am referring to the actual Sterling bass, not the import line of products they market under that name.

I just bought a Sterling Sub 4 from GC last week YES it retailed at 279$ and YES it has a front mount jack just to clarify on that! I wanted something different and new from my passive jazz bass which is a 1000$ bass and this bass is AWSOME especially for the price (even though I got it for a rediculous discount) I would pay 279$ for it any day its a beast!!! BTW the Walnut finish is great too!!!
