Oh snap...Too bad I got the Aria model and not the Fender one.......NOT!!!

The Fender one is just expensive.
The Aria one is just sexy and...cheaper.
I win anyway!

You're either number three, peacefully, or you can duke it out for number two with the guy with no pic!

Cameron

I'll have a pic in the morning - but I'm fair-minded; the gentleman with the pics can have number 2!

Bob

And just for the record...

I've put in a request for a quote at the Fender Custom Shop for a SBJ6 in Arctic White, with a maple fingerboard, white pearl or tortoise shell pickguard. We'll see....

Cheers,
Cameron

At last - people I can ask, who don't work for Fender (who have no idea.)
Please can someone :
tell me if it can be set up to 19mm spacing at the bridge (Fender didn't know this), and
give me a quick review of playability, fretwork, sound, etc.
I've been playing a six mainly for 10 years or so, and I'd love to get a more J sound going - they look fantastic - are they?
Thanks a lot

Yep, they are fantastic and 19mm out of the box. One of the best and most comfortable wide 6 string necks on the market.

The playability on mine is excellent. I have very low action and no issues with fret buzz (I have the fretted version ) - very easy to play chords or whatever. It sounds a little different than my other jazz basses. It could be the nitro finish, the pickups, the ebony board or all of the above that make the difference. It's a little cleaner and more musical, but you can still dig in and move toward the bridge to get that jazz bass burp and growl. It really is a fine instrument.

they have adjustable spacing at the bridge, but I don't know from what to what because I don't have mine yet....soon.

Cheers,
Cameron

A late thanks for the replies - I'd forgotten I'd asked (I am very old!)
Sounds like I'm going to have to get one then.
Does the Warwick deal mean that Fender will discontinue these soon I wonder?

apparently they are allowed to use all the technology developed on it, they just can't put Steve's initials on it anymore.

I finally got mine...review soon.

Cheers,
Cameron

SB Fender Jazz 6 initial review...

Finally got mine....it's BEAUTIFUL! Pics soon. Nice and light, within a 1/2 pound of my MTD's, has midrange punch for days, and a beautiful sharp articulation that only the best old Fenders have. It is beautifully made, finish is perfect, and THE POLE PIECES LINE UP WITH THE STRINGS !!!!!

>>>HALLELUJAH!!!!<<<

It can be done, we DO have the technology!

And yes it has buckets of single coil noise if you solo a pickup and face away from magnetic north. I'm going to reshield mine with actual copper, which will hopefully kill 50+% of it, but my initial findings are really positive. Sits well in playing position, it's comfortable, they've copied the MTD asymmetric neck, so that's quite comfy (wish they give Michael credit for that), and the sound is thick and rich with lots of midrange and that nice back-pickup single-coil 'thunk' that I've missed. I' deal with the noise. Went to a jam session last night, and I could alternately cut through or blend in, and that was first time out.

34" will take a while, and I wish they had put bigger more visible position marker dots on the side of the neck (another thing Michael has perfected on his basses). But it's neat to be playing a Fender again. I just hope their new Super Bassman 300 is as good, I might have myself an all-Fender rig yet (but I'll probably get a Bergantino cab to go with it, put some Fender grill cloth on it).

I look forward to getting rid of these crummy strings when they die, and string this bass through the bridge like God (Leo) intended, not through the body - too much string - tension for me...I know, I know, too much 'apparent stiffness' for me...

Love the bass. Fender should have kept Steve happy. Best thing they've built since Leo left the company. More after my first real gig with it.

Cheers,
Cameron
