Is the Steve Harris Signature P-Bass worth the money?

Im considering getting Steve's signature blue P-Bass, but everywhere I look they are at least $1000. The cheapest Ive seen has been $930. Is it really worth my money?

There's a very good review of this bass by Ed Friedland on YouTube.

Yeah but he gets paid to do the reviews. He is not going to say anything bad about the equipment he reviews - he focuses on the positives. In fact, I've never heard him say anything bad about anything I've ever seen him review on YouTube.

The neck alone is worth the price of admission. Nice, thick, and chunky like a good P-Bass neck should be.

How did you like the sound and feel of the one you test played?

The nice thing is you can be sure that the value of the bass will go up unless the bottom falls out of the Fender market.

they come up used on here for around the 800 mark. that is not a bad price for a cool looking P bass.

If you like the way it plays and sounds in your hands it's up to you if it's worth it.

No
Ed does not get paid for his reviews from manufactures and if he likes the bass he buys it.

The reason he does not ever have a lot of bad things to say about the basses he reviews is because if he does not have anything good to say about a bass he does not do a review and sends it back.

Ed is a stand up guy.

It is a very nice P bass. Its very solid, good neck, dense body, and sounds exactly like you think it should. I personally am not really a fan of the color scheme, but its based on Steve's design. It also sticks to the .110 flat wound string setup, so you might need to change the setup if that isn't your thing.

You have to read between the lines in an Ed Friedland review. When he says "there's nothing wrong with that B string", that's what he means. When he says "The B string on this is amazing", he's really recommending it. Just hear the love he pours out on the Carvin SB5000.

Hi

Had the bass for a couple of years. It's a great p-bass with a real thick chunky neck! No quality issues with mine. Everything fitted like it should. The sound is classic p-bass tone. I just didn't like the flats too much, so I put roundwound on it.
Personally I love the color sheme, but that's my 2 cents.
Sold it a few months ago for about 700 € (bass was in really, really good condition) because I mostly play 6 string basses. Otherwise I still would have it, that's for sure!

No: it's not

I had my WestHam united Steve Harris Fender Precision Custom Made by a local pro luthier, out of Fender replacement parts, with genuine select alder body, an American Deluxe 21 fret bird's eye maple Fender Precision neck and fingerboard, Leo Quann's BadAssII bridge and Seymour Duncan Antiquity split pickup, splinter jackinput, mirror pick guard, Tusq ivory nut full nitro finishing and Gotoh Vintage tuners for way less than $. 900.00.

And it's one of a piece!

So I really think the MIJ Steve Harris, with factory blue sparkle finish, ordinary Classic poly finish Precision neck and SPB1 pickup shouldn't cost more than mine how it does

Cheers,
Wallace

I'm planning on doing the same, sort of. My next bass build is gonna be Warmoth, but I can't decide between a Harris Tribute or a 51 slab P.

Might have to do both!!

It's definitely worth the money, IMHO, I can't say enough good things about mine!

I had one for about a year and loved it. Definitely worth the price to me.

I like Ed Friedland's videos, he seems like a good guy and he's obviously an excellent player. But, like so many things today, his vids are not really "reviews" in the sense of providing a critical analysis of the instrument. Most music magazines have devolved into serving up advertorials in the guise of reviews for the manufacturers that also buy ads. It really makes buying music magazines a waste of money these days.

I Believe ED did not get paid for his reviews.
So it would impact his review.

He is paid by Guitar World Mag for the reviews not by the manufacturer AFAIK.
