Stingray-like tone from a Jazz bass with Audere

I know it's not possible...but here is a link to video, where I attempt to get a tone similar to that of a Stingray. I generally do not play my jazz bass like in the video, as I prefer to have either both pickups on full or neck 100%- bridge 50%-75%.

In the video clip I have the Audere set to High Z, the bridge pickup is soloed, I cut the mids, and pumped up the lows & highs.

The playing is just noodling...nothing came to mind...

Still doesn't sound close to a Stingray. At least, it's not what I would consider close. Stingray's actually have a strong mid presence too so cutting them would make a jazz sound even less like one.

Not ragging on you or anything just giving my opinion.

I agree. Every Stingray I've had has had a strong mid presence.

also... IMHO... very tough to tell with pick style close to the bridge.

The only way I could imagine getting a Jazz to approach the MM tone would be to either eliminate the bridge pup and replace it with a MM pup (wired parallel, of course), at which point it would no longer really be a jazz bass or stick another jazz pup right next to the original bridge pup, and wire them together in parallel. Other than that I just don't think it can happen. Not that I'd be too upset if someone were to prove me wrong, though .

No offense taken at all fellow Marylander

I've owned about 6-7 Stingrays in my life, and have gigged them several enough times to know they have quite a scooped tone, which is why I cut the mids back in the video. If any Musicman has a stronger mid presence, it would be the Sterling (which I've also owned a few of)...not the Stingray. The Jazz bass in the video has split coil Dimarzio Area J pickups, not stock single coils.

I've had quite a few myself...and thought they lacked mids. They have a very naturally scooped tone imo. Not that that's a bad thing.

I currently use a pick in the band I'm in...at least 50% of the time...but I prefer fingerstyle.

One thing I have to say...this was done for fun...not to be a comparison at all. I've owned several Stingrays in the past as well as Jazz basses. I've liked them both for different reasons. I basically wanted to see if I could find a tone that was remotely similar...

Just think of all those posts about folks saying they can get a P bass tone with their Stingray...this is like one of those.
