Not ragging on you or anything just giving my opinion. |
No offense taken at all fellow Marylander
I've owned about 6-7 Stingrays in my life, and have gigged them several enough times to know they have quite a scooped tone, which is why I cut the mids back in the video. If any Musicman has a stronger mid presence, it would be the Sterling (which I've also owned a few of)...not the Stingray. The Jazz bass in the video has split coil Dimarzio Area J pickups, not stock single coils.

I've had quite a few myself...and thought they lacked mids. They have a very naturally scooped tone imo. Not that that's a bad thing.

I currently use a pick in the band I'm in...at least 50% of the time...but I prefer fingerstyle.
One thing I have to say...this was done for fun...not to be a comparison at all. I've owned several Stingrays in the past as well as Jazz basses. I've liked them both for different reasons. I basically wanted to see if I could find a tone that was remotely similar...
Just think of all those posts about folks saying they can get a P bass tone with their Stingray...this is like one of those.
