Stingray neck que

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all so I have a old pre eb stingray neck and a stock ernie ball stingray I swanna swap necks with, I know that the truss rod cutout will still be there as the pre eb has a bullet style truss at the nut, and the matter of drilling some holes to fit the 6 bolt

Aside from all that,do u guys think this is a good move?,I've always wanted a vintage instrument in my stable and I feel the neck really captures that ,it feels like a an old 60s p neck the way its worn in so I feel like this would be my best way

Anyways thoughts appreciated

I'd build another body for the pre-EB neck before I drilled holes.
Another option is to have the newer neck modified to feel more like the older.
Of course your method is much cheaper!

Personally I would sell the newer ray and have someone like johnK build you a old style ray body , your choice of finish and aftermarket elctronics and put your neck on it.

See with buying a new body comes buying all stock eb electronics and that's no fun to try to find, the only time stuff like that goes on the market is when nuts like me want to get crazy and part out their musicman

I've owned both pre-EB and EB Stingrays; the neck wasn't the biggest difference. The 2-band eq vs. the 3-band was, and the string-thru slab body was. The main difference with the necks was the finish, but if your old neck has the finish worn off, that's not even a difference. IMO, you'd be wasting your time.

I have to respectfully disagree. A 7.5" radius feels quite different than an 11" radius. Not saying that the other things don't make a difference, but for me the neck is the biggest. I would call up John K.

I played both those basses for years, and never noticed a neck radius difference.

There is in fact a radius difference not huge but the pre eb is rounder for sure like my 62 reiusse ,so i m feeling the consensus is th t this is not a very good idea??

My memory has been jogged somewhat; the frets are different too. My older neck had smaller frets; I did think it played a little easier due to that. But maybe it was the radius and that. It's your bass; do what you want. It might make a difference that you like, or it might inspire you to get another body.
