Stingray-Related NBD!

Hey guys!

I've been on the lookout for a SR4 for a few months now. Had to be in a select few colours, maple-necked, 2 eq. Needless to say I wasn't making it easy for myself and I almost compromised and bought a 3eq on a few occasions. Well, check this puppy out. She was absolutely brand new, I took the plastic shields off the pickguard and controls when she arrived and the serial number sticker is still on the back. But, despite never being played, she is second-hand. An unwanted present. I scored a pretty unbelievable deal.

It's a very very pale maple on the neck, looks ghostly and contrasts very well with the black. I'm getting a black pearl guard from Santa just to make her a little less plain I think. Just thought I'd share.

Beautiful instrument. Even if you left the black guard.

Maple board, and 2eq Ray. That's what I call perfect!
Congrats.

That's a beautiful stinger, great find. I’ve always wanted a ray like this but with a roasted neck. Quick question (don't want to highjack your thread): does anyone know if Musicman can roast the neck on this model? Not keen on the classic ray..

Beautiful as it is. I have a 3 band in cherryburst. A white pearloid guard would be very striking. I alternate my white pearl with the black; nice to change up the look every once in awhile.

Thanks for the comments guys, it's been about a week and (aside from a small grounding issue) we're getting along ok. About the pickgaurd, I haven't really decided and I'm certainly keeping the black but a little variety is always good.

Basso22, I don't think Musicman are very good at all with any special requests. Just try calling them and asking to buy a preamp or a neck or something. I'm sure you could find a luthier to do it for you though.

nice! Do the 2EQ versions sound much different than the 3 EQ versions? I have a 3 EQ maple neck Stingray, so I'm just curious.

You just talked me into taking the white pearloid off, and putting the black pickgard back on my stingray. Thanks. Oh yeah... beautiful bass. Congrats.

I just picked up a 3 band Autumn redburst that has a bit of a hum. only with the hi-band eq. It's not bad though. I checked the wiring, and bridge grounds and it all looked fine. I'm not really worried about it though because it's in mint condition for a 10 year old bass.

As I understand it, the 2 band preamp is pretty much the same as the original design whereas the 3 band uses more modern components. Whatever the reason there is a definite difference, more so than 'the same but no mid control'. To my ears the 2 band is subtler and darker, less in-your-face than the 3 band. A lot of people think the 2-band is superior because it's the original sound. Me? I just wanted something different as my Ray 5 has the 3 band eq.

Hey Joe, love the new band. Last time I saw you, you were slapping away on a custom-looking 5 string and doing vocals yourself. White pearl has its merits mind.

Go for the black pearl p/g. I think that is a really nice combo.
