Stingray, Sterling, Bongo, or other???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all!

Ive played a '95 Sterling for a few (great) years now.

I am wondering amongst us fellow bassists, which of us preffer the Stingray, the Sterling, the Bongo, or one of the other/newer designs?

Ifyou feel you'd like to answer, I'm curious as to your style as well (ie technique/music genre/rig).

So, who's into MUSICMAN, and if so, which one?

All the best!

JOHN.

A few years ago I set out to buy a Stingray and bought a Bongo 5HH. I love the Ray sound but as soon as I picked up the Bongo, I was hooked. It was all about the feel of the instrument for me - it just plays so smoothly. I've also grown to love the versatility of the electronics and was never a fan of active basses until this one.

Oh, and I play mostly blues and classic rock style stuff but I've used the Bongo on everything from musical theater to club/dance music as well.

dont think you can go far wrong with any of them to be fair..the stingray is what i would get myself, classic look great sound and feel..bongo for me is ugly but sounds Incredible live...the Sterling i never warmed to but still its sounds great, not as good as the other 2 imo.but give me one and i would be still happy

I have 5 Music Man basses and while I prefer the Stingray for everyday playing (mostly due to the 21 fret neck which I love), hands down the best sounding one is my Bongo. The new generation of basses like the Big AL and the Reflex are very flexible tone machines also.

Been playng Sterlings since 2003,and got one of the furst Sterling 5s off the line, which is my current gigging bass. I now have a Bongo 5 HH on the way. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with any Music Man bass.I did an outdoor show in June with a hired sound crew, and the head guy said," great,a Music Man bass, this will be easy!"
