Stingray Zing!

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this has been covered before,i did do a search....

But anywho,i love my stingray and i got one for the nice finger tone u can get with that nice top end zing that makes ever more present, but lately ive been only been able to dial in a nice midy pbass type tone but the zing is gone, even with new strings, the treble was there but not too much zing

My question is ,what causes that sizzle,is it fret buzz ,or i ve heard some rays have more zing than others,so does it have to do with the woods used?Or simply is their any amp settings that bring out that zing?

to think of a song that has it think sunday morning by no doubt,he had a nice thick bass tone with that awesome top end

had a stingray. Never had any kind of zing. I have a Sterling now and that has a zing--new or old strings.

My honest guess is that your ear has just gotten used to it--whatever you identify as the "zing." but then again, I don't really know what I am talking about half the time.

I usually get the zingy-ness when I play closer to the bridge or directly over the pickup. Higher up towards the neck and I get a very fat P-Bass type of tone. Mind you this is with my heavily modified Stingray 5 that I literally gutted and built up again (new pickup, new preamp) that is strung with flats (Chromes).

New strings can work miracles, though I think the zingyness comes from the high mid register. Try boosting your high mids and highs.

If you've been getting zing from your frets, IMHO, your action is too low. If it's disapeared and you atually liked that sound, trying tightening the truss rod just a little to see if it comes back. That type of zing is actually the strings buzzing against the next fret from where you're playing.

I love my Stingray for a million reason, including zing. New strings are an idea. Also, how about upping the onboard treble. Frankly, I'm usually looking to cool mine down about - bridge humbucker, maple board and steel rounds - but if you want more maybe mess with your onboard. You might also want to dial back the onboard mids a bit.

I started taking out my old SVT amp and cab recently and found I get the Stingray zing with the following tweaks: On bass, 3-band EQ: bass pegged, mid at center or more, treble at center. On amp: Normal input, bass and mid at 12:30 to 1pm (switches center), treble at only 9:00-10:00 BUT bright switch on. It more than did the trick, but my strings are fresh...

more like Zing-ray!!! HEY-O!!!

I also figure you'd want to dial up the treble and find yourself some new steel rounds.
