It's not a thing, usually. Sub bass usually describes a frequency range below the signal normally put out by a bass guitar--so under 30 or 40 Hz, roughly. Usually frequencies that low are generated by a synth or other electronic processing.

What sounds like a bass synth or a 808 kick in some parts of the music is me playing a fretless sub contra bass.

Not necessarily, it could be bass lower than the standard B string frequency which is about 31Hz,

I'd like to tune my bass down to f# but I guess I need proper speakers for that low of frequencies.

Not necessarily. What kind of cab(s) and head are you using? And how many watts is your amp?

Please have no worries about the low F# string, it's easier to get a great sounding F# than you believe.

As far as your amp head goes you will need a minimum 500 watts, that will give you enough headroom and come in handy at low volumes.

Have you looked into any specific brand cabs?

You definitely need some serious speakers in order to hear sub-bass frequencies, and for that matter you can even destroy inadequate speakers that way.

The good news is if you just want to learn and practice some tunes written for down-tuned bass, you can do that with any amp. You'll just hear the upper harmonics of the lower notes, not the "meat" of them.

If your intention is to actually hear all that low content, you'll need to spend real money on a real (and big) speaker cab.

SUB basses are made by Sterling By Music Man

They're an "entry level" Music Man style bass with a LOT of potential!
