Supreme JB-1 -> ?

Hello, fellow bass players of this fantastic forum.

I have my own little home recording studio, and my current bass is the Supreme JB-1 I got several years ago in a bass starterpack with a Riot Ba20 amp. When this winter came the action/string height messed up badly. I fixed the string buzzing issues I had myself, resulting in the strings heightening even more. I mic up the amp, which toghether with the JB-1 sort of satisfies my needs for the moment, although the bass is pretty uncomfortable to play. I am considering maybe upgrading it with a budget of 2500 SEK (400$ approx), if it really would improve the sound.

My question is, is it worth it? Would a new, mediocre bass really make a big difference? Or should I get a new amp?

Like I said, it really gets a fair amount of the tones I want out of it in-studio. If there's no real point upgrading it in that dimension, I am spending the money on a second-hand semi-acoustic guitar I've gotten a great deal on.

For the record, handing it in and fixing the action would cost 700 crowns (100$ approx).

Thanks in advance. Keep on groovin'.
