Surf Green happiness

I am a big fan of the 50's pastel colors. That being said I did a project a few years ago making a 1955 Fender Precision bass replica in Shell Pink Nitro. It turned out well so now I got a bug to do a modern 5 string Jazz bass in Surf Green. Generally I would order up all the parts and put the bass together, but this time I did it alittle different. I purchased a Squier Vintage Modified 5 string bass from Musicians Friend. It gave me a great foundation to start with. I tore the bass down and came up with a design that I liked and went to town. I wanted Surf Green to be the color with a matching headstock, I used a White Pearl guard from Fender, I added a Audere 3 band preamp. One other idea I decided to use was a tug bar. I generally never have used a tug bar before, but I thought in this case it would add a bit of a retro touch, so I cut it down to a very slim profile so it would not hinder slapping. It worked out well and looks cool. Anyway, here are some pics...

Wow...cover and tug-bar not my thing, but she's a real beaut, nonetheless.

Thanks for the compliment. The string spacing is 18mm at the bridge.

I love me some surf green too. What was your refinish process? Did you just scuff up the poly with 220 or strip it further?

I use a heat gun to remove the poly. I seal the body and start priming. I use Reranch products which are all nitro.

I love it! The green tug bar really looks cool, IMO.

WOW! Congrats, great job.

(but... what about pearl inlays on the fingerboard? - to me, they 'd look really cooler...)

Beautiful. The low profile tug bar looks good and I don't like tug bars.
