Tort looks awful in my opinion, I would go with white or black out of the choices in the poll. White pearloid, parchment, cream,or mint would look even better.

If there's no route under the pg then leave it off.

There is--it's a cheapo body, but I'm loving it so far.

That's too bad. I don't see the appeal of any pickguard on a Fender style body, assuming there's no route.

Awesome bass.

I really want a Surf Green Jazz now.

There was a guy here the other day that had a Surf Green 5'er with maple board, black blocks, pearloid PG, and matching headstock.

It was beautiful.

Brown tort, with white running a close second.

Oooh, I really, really like that white pearl with the maple neck. But I still like the brown tort better with rosewood .. I think my second choice would be a cream pearl.

Antique White Pearloid looks sharp on pastels.

I have a Sonic Blue MIJ Strat that looks an awful lot like Surf Green.I put a brown tort pickguard on it; I voted for brown tort. But I've been thinking about changing it to mint green.

I chose white but would rather MOTO or parchment/cream. the torts don't look good there to me.

I went for white, though IMO pearl would look best.

Sorry didn't find good pic of a bass...

Edit: Oh somebody posted a P-Bass with pearl before, didn't see that! Very nice combination, cream pearl would also be cool.

Looks like I'm in the minority here.

I like the Black PG.

Note all the examples being put forth with white or white pearl have maple fretboards. With rosewood, I'd definitely go either red tort (first) or brown tort (second).

Someone said that tort clashes with the surf green. Someone else said that tort distracts from (or dominates) the surf green. As a professional teaching artist, I respectfully disagree. I say that the tort (red, especially) compliments the surf green very tastefully.

Talking purely cosmetics, I like Brown Tortoise the best. My next choice would be white. Black is alright.

I wondered if someone would jump on this. You are correct, red is opposite of green on the color wheel and thus complimentary. That being 'theory' and this being real world I don't like tort against the green. Does nothing for me.

I do have to say that this has me thinking of a pastel bass, except I think I would go with sonic blue, no pickguard.

If you subscribe to the "match the pickguard to the fretboard material" philosophy, there is only one correct answer. Otherwise, whatever.
