Surine Homage NTIII 5 string

Just had a rare for me recent bad experience with Guitar Center, basically just a wasted trip to an out of town store to see a bass that had an undisclosed major headstock repair. Waste of gas and time.

I check the used section of their website often and it pays. This time they had this bass, an Homage NTIII.

:bassist:

I received the bass and it needed a couple of tweaks and now it's pretty sweet. The Homage series is Surine's tip of the hat to Fender Jazz basses, of which I'm a big fan. This is not a Jazz clone or copy.

Neck through, Southern Ash wings, Birdseye board, ABM bridge, Gotoh tuners. Surine branded levy's Cordura bag. Bartolini single coils and custom NTCT-H preamp. The preamp is three bands boost only. Turn all three bands down and there's no output. Once I figured this out it was easy to dial in killer tones.

Turns out this is serial number 001 in this model. There's a full color brochure featuring the bass I bought on the Surine website including front and back pics, specs AND retail pricing. Not sure why someone let it go...

This is the bass I received.

Saw that one on the gc website, Great price and a nice score. Glad to see it made it into good hands.

The Surine Homage series is a bass that I brought to Surine, it's basically based off of my Surine sub contra bass, I suggested to Scott to offer the sub contra bass in a standard version and we collaborated further and it was Scott who suggested calling that model the Homage, in homage to Leo Fender of course.

This one was apparently the first Homage NTIII. I was amazed (I guess I shouldn't be;)) that it turned up at GC so cheap, particularly when they knew the exact model number and there's alot of info available through a google search. Lots of detailed photos of my actual bass along with a product sheet with retail price.

I played it again at church on Sunday, just a massive sounding instrument. Had the other musicians and folks in the congregation just looking at me and smiling. I didn't necessarily intend to keep it but of course I had to set it up and see what it could do. Now I'm stuck with it. I just had Kevin Brubaker build a ramps for it and my AJC.

It's definitely not yellow like the GC photo.
:D

When I received it there were a couple of things... there was a nut that was stripped on the stacked bass/treble control and the Surine decal is worn off under the string tree, the screws were shorter than they should be. That's it as far as issues and I fixed the control. It took a minute to figure out how the preamp (NTCT-H) worked, now I can dial in whatever I want. Typically just a big mean fingerstyle tone.
:D

The Surine Homage series are some very nice basses overall. You definitely got a keeper.

Man, I'm usually not an ash guy, but that is a fantastic looking bass. Love the gold hardware too.

Here's a pic of me live with my Surine sub contra bass (that the Homage series derived from).
